there's no /jazz/ right now, so does anyone know if "cooler" free jazz exists? I enjoy a lot of what I've heard, which is just a few of the most commonly recommended essentials, but it seems to be completely about unleashing some kind of unholy anger from every instrument. Is there any more laid back? I would appreciate a few recs.

The new Trio 3 album, Visiting Texture, is the one that comes straight to mind.
Either Art Blakey Quintet - A Night at Birdland or Cannonball Adderley - Somethin Else
The only jazz subgenre I enjoy is Hard Bop desu.
When I took lessons at about 12 or 13, my percussion instructor had me learn the drum parts to Saxophone Colossus to play along and practice with. I've loved it ever since. I still find myself whistling St. Thomas from time to time.
Herbie Hancock Headhunters

Could walk the line between conventional and avant better than anyone
>>74508689
Well yeah but thats because most rock threads are started by newfags or redditors
>>74509068
This album has one of the best bands in jazz but i can never totally get on board with the vibraphone, its a little too cheesy for me
This is a "newer" jazz band, some really fucking good shit here.

>>74509713
>Bitching about the conversation instead of contributing or going to another thread
>>74508823

>>74509940
>>74510004
In the past 2 weeks I've started at least 10 threads trying to discuss jazz I like and they've all died without more than 5 replies, most of them with zero replies.
So I'm not going to even bother trying here and bumping this already shit thread.

>>74508745

>>74513766
didn't herbie explicitly say in his autobiography that he formed headhunters and made That album to get away from the free jazz he had been performing with the mwandishi lineup because he thought it was too indulgent and wanted to just lay down more simple grooves? plus that album gets very intense on the second side. how about this?
