You are not allowed to browse /mu/ until you have at least 1000 artist folders. Feel free to come back once you do. We need to keep quality up, you know?
>>
>>74502733
Of all those "1000" artists, how many of their discographies have you listened to all the way through? There's no point in having a big library if you haven't listened to every artist's discography at least 2 times over.
>>
>>74502768
>listening to discographies
holy shit lol
>There's no point in having a big library if you haven't listened to every artist's discography at least 2 times over
>every artist's discography at least 2 times over
oh fuck, you can't be serious, are you?

And by the way, I have listened to at least 3'333 artists according to my last.fm
>>
>>74502829
Yes I am being serious. You can act elitist all you want but not having a sufficient knowledge of each artist in your library makes you a mega-pleb
>>
>>74502733
got these all again this morning, im still building my library back to what it was.

Yeah, it's definitely necessary to listen to Avenged Sevenfold's whole discography to "understand" them or whatever.
Fuck you.
>>
>>74502932
hahaha
>>
>>74502829
He's kind of right. Maybe you don't have to listen to the all the b sides or obscure eps or whatever, but you kind of have to listen to most of an artist's work to have a proper idea of them. I mean do you listen to greatest hits?
>>
>>74502964
>you kind of have to listen to most of an artist's work to have a proper idea of them
Most artists are not worth listening to their whole discographies, which is why >>74502768 is a stupid post.

>I mean do you listen to greatest hits?
Yeah. You don't?
>>
>>74502932
:^)
>>
>>74503003
>Most artists are not worth listening to their whole discographies
How would you know?
>>
>>74503031
Experience. You don't need to listen to Radiohead's whole discography, for example, as that would be a waste of time that could have been better spent discovering new artists.
>>
>>74503040
Dude they're like less than 50 minutes of your time each. I mean I don't particularly care about RH either but it hardly matters in the long run. You have so much time in your life.
>>
>>74503003
>Yeah
Greatest hits compilations are albums made for the sole purpose of making money. They lack the flow that studio albums have because the entire thing isn't meant to be listened to all at once.
>>
>>74502733

is 200 folders and mostly lurking okay
>>
>>74503076
You might not realize it yet, but 50 minutes is a lot of time. Also, it's 50 minutes that could have been better spent by discovering new music, keep that in mind.
>You have so much time in your life.
Quite the opposite. So much stuff to do (and listen), yet so little time.

>>74503079
>Greatest hits compilations are albums made for the sole purpose of making money.
What's your favorite Louis Armstrong album?
>They lack the flow that studio albums have because the entire thing isn't meant to be listened to all at once.
Most studio albums are literally compilations of songs for the sole purpose of making money.

>>74503096
Of course, there is nothing wrong with lurking. I just wish more people would do that nowadays.
>>
>>74503122
>Quite the opposite. So much stuff to do (and listen), yet so little time.
I mean if you're planning on dying at age 35 then sure.

How is it a waste of time if you enjoy it?
If you like one album you're likely to like others. You might be intersted in discussing the band with people here or elsewhere, which is hard if you just listened to a greatest hits. Plus you get to rank their albums in those threads we have all the time. It might be a bit silly but people seem to enjoy it.

And Radiohead was probably a bad example. Lots of people here like them and it makes sense for them to listen to all their albums.
>>
>>74503157
Even I were to die at age 150, there would still be so much stuff to do (and listen) in not enough time.

>>74503162
Good, because you will be missing his best period (early period), since he didn't release any albums until after 25 years since he released his first single. Enjoy being a pleb who only listens to albums now.

>>74503166
I too lost my whole music folder once, it sucked. It was probably like 500 artists, but still.

>>74503177
Because odds are you won't enjoy it as much since you are listening to a subpar recording of an artist, so you better move on to something else instead.
>If you like one album you're likely to like others.
Maybe now, but after you listen to more music you will see that this is the exception instead of the rule.
>You might be intersted in discussing the band with people here or elsewhere, which is hard if you just listened to a greatest hits.
I have no interesting in discussing those bands with people on here, they talk about those one hundred bands every day all day on here. It's tiring. Also, I never said I only listened to greatest hits albums, just that I have listened to some because it's the best format there is for certain artists.
>Plus you get to rank their albums in those threads we have all the time
Woah! So much fun!
>It might be a bit silly but people seem to enjoy it.
Yeah, but it would be way better if they would diversify their tastes instead by listening to new artists instead of sticking to the same hundred as ever and even worse listening to their full discographies, further stagnating the taste (and quality) of the board.

>And Radiohead was probably a bad example. Lots of people here like them and it makes sense for them to listen to all their albums.
Not really. At most, you only need to listen to Ok Computer and Kid A. Anything other than that isn't worth your time unless you are a hardcore Radiohead fan.

Ah, I see, that's fine. I almost never delete stuff on purpose. The only time I did were some Scaruffi Collages I grabbed from what.cd because of the freeleech (it ended up being too much punk I never cared about and some horribly tagged classical), and a few annoying albums.

Well, there is Redacted now. It's pretty nice. They have half the content though, but it's growing steadily.
And yeah, fuck classical, I know the "correct" way is to use performer as artist, but it just looks so messy that way. Also, the worst of all, when there is more than a single work under one album. That's the real hell as there is no way to deal with that.

yea redacted is pretty cool i'll admit but one of the things i loved about what was how many seeds even really unknown shit almost always had... made me feel a lot more comfortable and certain i wasn't going to get a shitty torrent, ya know?

but yea dude tagging classical is horrible. more than half of the classical on my hard drive remains untagged, it's just way too tedious. it's obviously easy for individual lengthier works released on a single LP but god fucking help you if it's a compilation or an opera
i consider my tagging work of artur schnabel's complete beethoven piano sonatas one of my major achievements in life tbqh lol

with that said, i usually use this little gem of a site when i'm tagging classical:
http://imslp.org/
and/or wikipedia. my personal algorithm for tagging has a lot to explain and it's fairly autistic and strict but it works for me.

alri lads, here's mine. mostly old music from when i was in high school/freshman college. I have another 2 other folders with music but can't be arsed to make a big collage so w/e.
>>
>>74503549
Eh, the number of seeds is pretty irrelevant as long as it's not zero, imo. So the real big loss is the amount of torrents lost. The request system still works at least, but making a request is costly if you want it to get filed...

Regarding classical, I want to say I just stopped caring, but having two "I. Allegro" tracks or whatever on the same album without a distinction of which one is which... oh, god... And tagging it like "work - movement" isn't that much better either.

I got "meaner" after browsing some other site for too long, and I also got "meaner" because I believe in these last two weeks /mu/ has seen a huge decrease in quality, so that's why I have been grumpy lately >:c
>>
>>74503881
Just last two weeks? I'm coming from a 3 month break because I felt the board was completely stale. Came back to see if theres any progress but...
Also, what other site could make you grumpier than moo? a red non porn board?
>>
>>74503881
>two weeks
more like two years mate.
>>
>>74503938
Yeah, 2 weeks, which says a lot because I started posting regularly again around less than 3 weeks around after a one year long break (more or less).
And it wasn't 4chan what made me grumpy actually, but from another site from which one would expect the opposite, but some specific conditions were given that made me feel the need to always antagonize something. I mean, I always did that, but this time particularly so. Funny stuff anyways.

>>74503975
That too, but these two weeks have been particularly awful. I saw some of the worst threads ever (every time the board gets more and more assimilated to the one of sites like Reddit or /b/) and some awful moderation as well (that deleted a meta report thread that was reporting off topic threads yet the off topic threads didn't get deleted). I guess the former has to do with 4chan being at an all time high according to Alexa, but it's still awful.

Because of what I listen to my music folder is half artists and half labels and sometimes a folder is just for miscellaneous releases of one particular genre, it's pointless to make a folder for only one release and that happens quite often for some the stuff I have. I lost my HDD which had everything on it since I was like 13 but the shit on it which isn't on here was mostly Metal and J-Core that I don't listen to anymore. I thought they'd be more than this desu because of the size of the folder but whatever.

Also I can't rec anything based on what I've seen so far.
