How do you tag your music?
Do you include both the main genre and the subgenres?
Do you only include the most prominent subgenre?

I put a couple of genres separated with a semi-colon, it works
shit taste

If you use semicolon foobar can't filter by each genre you included and will treat the whole combination as one genre though.

I remove genre tags as well as embedded album art. Artist, album, track number, track title and year are the only tags you need.

MusicBee treats it as multiple genres/tags
Foobar is broke

Album, Artist, Year, Genre(copy of Year tag), Discnumber, Tracknumber, Title.
I don't need the Genre tag as I don't really listen per genre, I listen per album.
I use the year of release in genre to find tracks more easily (some software won't let you filter on year)
I stopped using genre tags, they just lead to pointless sub-sub-categorisation and don't really help to organise music imo.
I guess if you listen to music by genre then it could help but even then you can just search for the artist.

this is what i do
Tags are for fags

I use dickTunes so no multiple genres. Write label / catalog # / source type in comments. Maintain chronological playlists for labels i like (pain in the ass, wish I had a player which would automate this). only track composer info for classical works. I like my system but it was a ton of work to tidy up my library after like 4 years of shoddy organization

yeah, I don't know how I feel about using genre tags. it can be nice now and then to quickly find something of a similar vibe but other than that feels a bit pointless.

I only use the first genre that pops up in RYM
anything else is just being autistic
>>74486219
>trusting a few dozen furiously masturbating autistic radiohead fans to tell you what genre all your music is
>>74486023
I normally use the predominant tag from RYM with some corrections. I really wanted to get done with tagging my library by country of origin like pic related, but it's too much shit to tag

they're right 90% of the time

I could really give a shit about music genres when tagging. Like I can remember what music genre an album is. Only thing I make sure I do have right is release dates. Since some albums get a lot of reissues with bonus music. I also write in the album title if its some special Japanese release.
