Sodomize the holy asshole

Break the seals of angels
Drink the sweet blood of Christ
Taste the flesh of the priest
Sodomize holy nuns

The king of Jews is a liar
The Heavens will burn
Dethrone the son of God
God is dead

Holyness is gone
Purity is gone
Prayers are burned
Covered in black shit

Rape the holy ghost
Unclean birth of Jesus Christ

Imagine being such a faggot that you only listen to 80s speed metal and flashy hard rock while denouncing anything remotely aggressive as edgy
Imagine being such a faggot that you think extreme metal is the only good form of metal because everything isn't hard enough
imagine being such a faggot that the only extreme metal you can palate are the melodic bands and overly technical modern bands who use pro-tooled digital production while claiming that anyone who doesn't share your views on what extreme metal should sound like is a tryhard

Help me get into melodeath. I kinda tried to follow the DM chart and the flowchart from wiki but most "essential listening" stuff did nothing for me. Here's what I heard (for all bands just the most popular albums)
>Absolutely loved:
In Flames
Autumn Leaves
>Liked:
Insomnium
Sacrilege
Children of Bodom (despite for the cheese)
>did literally nothing
Dark Tranquility
At The Gates
Edge of Sanity
>hated
Amorphis
Wintersun
Amon Amarth (who put it on the chart?)
>uncertain but good
Carcass
Where do I go from here? Do I just listen to more Swedish scene melodeath? I love me some good melody but it's not really the prerequisite, if it's got energy and riffs I'll go for it.

Depends on where you're coming from. Drone is /mu/ territory and personally I think it's not metal.
I'd say listen to it if you:
—love ambient, experimental or noise
—think krautrock is best music and Kid A is best record ever
—think Metal Machine Music wasn't shit
—just listen to anything p4k/Scruffles/whatever critic recommends

Stop posting metal in a general, like a bunch of cucks. Hip-Hop shitposters don't post in generals. They start as many threads as they want. They're not afraid to shit up the board. Post as many metal threads as you want. Every metal thread displaces some other, most likely hip-hop, thread.

Does anybody remember Uranium? When I was in the 8th grade I lived in an area that didn't yet receive any major cable television. So rather than MTV we received MuchMusic USA and Uranium was the best thing ever for a metal youngling
>>
>>74479925
First, metal is a more niche genre than top 20 pop and hip hop. Asking questions about metal to outsiders is like talking about classical/bleeps/jazz/whatever outside generals.
Second, we can't choose who visits /mu/. If it's primarily wiggers and p4k drones, then we can't really do anything about it.

For me, "that" band these days has to be Gorguts. With the wave of technical death metal that started since Ulcerate, I feel like they really haven't aged well because their music lacks the intensity of death metal and only has esoteric riffing. Meanwhile more recent technical death metal bands bring both the esoteric riffing without watering down the intensity of death metal.
>>74478909
Their whole package makes them essentially easy listening death metal without going straight into melodic death metal territory. Chuck's vocals are nowhere near as vicious as his peers' vocals. The riffs are nowhere near as intensely technical as say...Altars Of Madness or Legion with a slight melodic tinge to them, and even the drums are like that where you'll have some cool sounding bits but they aren't really in-your-face intense. Very easy to get into even if they do little with the death metal concept.
>>74479033
They have one really cool concept for a track. But then all their songs are like that with some epic sounding intro, with weaving guitar fills, and that same "play chord, then play chord four frets back, then play chord two frets forward from there" progression that I always thought Iron Maiden overused until I listened to Running Wild. I can see the typical power metal fan be completely unbothered by everything I said though since it makes for catchy music even if its very, very samey.
>>74479148
>Drudkh
Their riffs are often either two guitar riffs or they move chords in a way similar to classical guitar but not as technical to give more nuance to them than the average atmoshit. They also get pretty creative with their non-electric guitar parts as well like using the toms on their drums to simulate rain on that one Autumn Aurora track or that post-rock inspired build with the bass taking center stage on Microcosm's second track.
>Om
Riffs progress more than most black metal almost like death metal/prog, and nifty folky noises.

>>
>>74479069

you don't have to enjoy it just because other people do.
>>
>>74479176
Experimental is a modifier, not a genre.
>>
>>74481933
imo it's more of an umbrella term than anything else
>>
>>74481788
>what is doom metal
>what is stoner metal
>who's Neurosis
>what is that one Drudkh track on Autumn Aurora
>>
>>74481955
It's an umbrella term because people throw that word at anything that's even remotely distanced from an orthodox sound. That doesn't mean it's a genre or a style. It's an approach applied to something else, be it a style, a subgenre or even timbre itself.
>>
>>74481980
A lot of those use rockier/punkier drumming instead of Ward's bluesy style.
>>
>>74482056
Not at all. Neurosis for example takes Ward's style and makes it even more primitive to give it a tribal feel. Drudkh use a toms heavy approach similar to Ward's to simulate rain. There's stoner doom stuff like Kyuss or Church Of Misery who are either playing faster or slower takes on Ward's style.

Fapped to her a few times. She became too huge for her own good and decided to ask for more money to do Uranium if I remember correctly. They kept her, gave her two shows, and raised her salary substantially, but then they weren't getting enough ratings to keep her and she washed away.

I don't think she has done anything in the music realm in years, but I respect her for making a killing in the industry for the time she spent in it.

one of the best things to come out of hardcore, i wish the bands that ape these guys were anything close to as good. skv's noise projects are pretty nice as well and i don't listen to noise.

Trve sludge is shit like Grief and to a slightly lesser extent Crowbar. Melvins are pretty intro level sludge. Noothgrus, Brainoil, and Buzzoven aren't bad either. Brainoil occasionally gives off a stoner vibe. That should be a good start for you.

>>74487240

it would be another forgettable bm act if it weren't for their provoking blend of bm and a particular religious phenomenon
old bm acts used Christian art too, but for different purposes and in a different way, they didn't want to make a cultural travesty for the sake of amusement of the internet's consumers hungry for new piquant experiences
>>
>>74487331
It's a gimmick, sure, but how does that make them hipster?
>>
>>74487312
Just watch the YouTube comments and the RYM reviews
Half of these people wouldn't know who fucking Bathory is
Not to mention that if you take a peek at the chart threads occuring on this board sometimes, people who have deafheaven, alcest and electric wizard on their charts usually have this album somewhere too
>>

>how does that make them hipster?

>>
>>74487348
That's true, but you also have people that listen to a lot of shit you'd consider trve and still end up listening to Batushka.
>>
>>74487348
to be fair Bathory is massively overrated, his first 3 albums are just motörhead/venom ripoffs minus the vocal hooks

>>
>>74487395
Sure, but I still wouldn't call them a hipster band.
>>
>>74487406
What would qualify as a hipster band then?
You agree that half of their fanbase is pretty clueless when it comes to metal, why wouldn't that be sufficient?
What makes them different from, say, Alcest at this point (minus the aesthetic)?
>>
>>74487363
I can enjoy this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCLuXhFwdgE
and Batushka.
I don't see the problem. It's not like it's deafheaven or liturgy.
>>
>>74487454
Batushka uses a cheap gimmick or two in order to get people's attention, where Alcest and Deafheaven not only sounds like hipsters mixing black metal with shoegaze in a way that's not rather interesting to put it lightly in order to seem different and what not, but are also pretty serious about their philosophy, I guess. I don't know, Alcest and Deafheaven seem much more hipsterish to me than Batushka, that's mostly it.

>>74487526
Honestly, Alcest first demo was pretty straightforward black metal, not to mention that Neige played drums on Peste Noire's first demo "Aryan Supremacy". Would he really qualify as more of a hipster than Batushka?
>>

Alcest did sound like that at the beginning, but look at their later output, especially the last two albums.
