Sgt. Pepper/Revolver/MMT>White Album>Let It Be/ Rubber Soul >> everything except for Abbey Road

Abbey Road is definitely above Let It Be/Rubber Soul but beyond that I don't know where I'd put it. It seems like the most polished album but I'm not sure if it's quite as fun to listen to as their more experiment stuff like MMT

I don't count Yellow Submarine because it's really only side A featuring Beatles songs. Hey Bulldog and It's All Too Much are phenomenal (and I have a soft spot for All Together Now).

Help! does not have a single weak song on it, and features I've Just Seen a Face and Yesterday (two of the greatest songs ever recorded).
>>
Sgt Peppers might be the most overrated album of all time. The first and last song sre about the only two thag are listenable, and the last (A Day in the Life) is prbably their best song ever. Still not enough to make it even a decent album.
>>
>>74475117
>Help! does not have a single weak song on it
>features Dizzy Miss Lizzy
pick one.

Also Rubber Soul is basically the grown-up version of Help!,
it has more interesting themes in its songs and I'd say its more consistent than Help!,
it is also the album which represented the dramatic change in their style
and helped pave the way for more experimentation.

I like Sgt Pepper's because of what it represents as well as the music though, and it's like a journey that album, it feels like you're exploring their music and when you get to the end, they hit you with possibly the greatest song ever.
Would I create a playlist from single songs in that album? Probably not. But as a single listen it is probably the most engaging, and varied (except for the white album, which is tied for my favourite with Sgt Peppers).

>>
>>74475344
Maybe it's because I've worn out most of the songs on help, but I think Michelle and girl are better than anything on help.
>>
>>74475529
I still feel like MMT flows better, and it wasnt even intentional.

Abbey Road imo is a better "album experience" than Sgt. Peppers too. Sgt. Peppers feels like a lot of sleepy songs with great climaxes. I also think that the album blows it's load with She's Leaving Home (the best on Peppers).
>>
>>74475590
I posted that. Michelle, You Won't See Me, and If I Needed Someone are my favorites on Rubber Soul.
>>
>>74475596
I'd agree that the Abbey Road Medley is the Beatles best flowing piece of work (possibly the best flowing medley ever), but I like that on Sgt Pepper's the song all feel like that fit together, but yet are so different, on MMT, a lot of the songs you could class as the same genre, I am the Walrus, flying, blue jay way, the fool on the hill. I would class these all as pyschedelic rock (perhaps wrongly), whereas in Sgt Pepper's I feel like you get a massive ranfe of styles and types of music.
>>
>>74475344

The US version of Rubber Soul has I've Just Seen a Face on it, does that count?
>>
>>74475899
It does?
Does the US version of Help! have it on it as well?
>>
>>74476002

No

The US version of Help! was half Beatles songs half soundtrack from the film. The remaining tracks were placed on the US version of Rubber Soul and the US album Yesterday and Today (which had Revolver songs on it like a whole month before Revolver was out in the UK)
>>
>>74475899
No. I don't consider the US albums canon (except MMT which was eventually adopted by the UK canon)

Disappointing thread, their greatest album is obviously Revolver. The middle era of the Beatles (65-66) is their peak. The sweet spot between their fantastic and innovative early pop songwriting and their later psychedelic, often overindulgent phase. Rubber Soul and Revolver, as well as the non-album releases of Paperback Writer, Rain (their greatest song besides SFF), Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out is not just the best period of The Beatles; it's the best 12 months or so by any rock artist.

Also, they looked the coolest around the Revolver era. No denying that.
