I've tried a bunch of websites to help me discover new music, they all suck ass. Any recommendations?

Find your music by yourself. Explore. Look for similar artists, check YouTube videos, read reviews, check sharethreads, lists and charts. Music found by yourself is more valuable to you than to be spoonfeed by a Spotify algorithm or something.

But the methods you recommended are far worse than an algorithm

They're not worse at all. It's more work but if you want great results you have to put some effort into this activity. Otherwise, good luck finding scraps.

Try Sonemic. It's only in beta so it's a bit screwy at times but it's what i've been using for a few weeks and it works for me

he's right though, there's no magical formula to find something you'll like every time. digging and finding a gem is rewarding and exposes you to a lot of other stuff, even if it doesn't hit the spot
i like to narrow down what im looking for and search via genre on rym. as I listen my last.fm eventually catches up and makes good recommendations as well
