You guys like Frank Zappa?
I like some of his music but anyone who calls him their favorite artist should be avoided.

This t b h
>>74444145
Favorite albums of his?
I like him as a persona (yeah, I realize he did some shitty things) more than a musician overall.
>>74444169
>yeah, I realize he did some shitty things
like what, make comments against socialism? he's pretty harmless desu
>>74444145
agreed
>>74444145
>anyone who calls him their favorite artist should be avoided.
care to explain why?
>>74444132
Who or what did he zapped?
>>74444132
I like that he makes nu-males very defensive and insecure.
>>74444180
Well I guess "did" isn't the best way to put it but he came off as genuinely misanthropic, though that's also part of his charm. Kinda like Bukowski but only half as pretentious.
>>74444269
>prog
>not the most nu-male genre ever
>>74444145
this
same type of people that consider zappa their favorite artist are the people that when asked their about favorite books name atlas shrugged and 1984
>>74444722
That is a terrible comparison.
I'm trying to build a complete collection.
18 albums down, something like 90 albums to go.
This might take a while......
>>74444132
He's worth liking if only for his testimony before Congress
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxB-ZePpS7E
>>74444180
He named his kids Moon Unit and Dweezil.
>>74445038
I'm surprised it only took you 18 to start picking some of the worst ones, that's not completionist, it's just masochistic
>>74445063
>Moon Unit and Dweezil.
You forgot Diva Muffin and Ahmet Emuukha Rodan
>>74444145
I smell stupidity and enviousness... haha lol you guys are big snobs
>>74445545
From Worst to Best
Moon Unit
Diva
Dweezil
Ahmet
>>74445306
Do you have any good taste tho... ?
>>74445815
Swap Dweezil and Ahmet because Ahmet was the name of some Egyptian destroyer Goddess so that's pretty cool but Dweezil sounds like something a grade schooler would say as an insult.
>>74445862
Ahmet is already over Dweezil.
Its from worst to best.
>>74445797
more likely it's your unbearable body odour
What's the best way to get into this guy? His discog is fucking huge.
>>74445306
the only bad album in his pic is Crusing With Ruben And The Jets
WHY DOES IT HURT WHEN I PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Love his stuff.
OK so since we're in a zappa thread
I listened to Hot Rats and I dig that shit. I'm trying to listen to jazzier stuff but Bitches Brew was a bit too much for me.
What are some good Zappa/not Zappa albums to help me transition?
>>74447974
Have you tried In A Silent Way?
>>74447974
Try Head Hunters, it's very funky and catchy so it should be easy to get into
>>74446889
Start with Läther. If you like the rock/humour stuff go for Sheik Yerbouti, Zoot Allures, maybe Tinseltown Rebellion. If you like the guitar solos get Guitar and Shut Up 'n' Play Yer Guitar. If you like the complex instrumental compositions get The Yellow Shark and Civilization Phaze III. The rest all falls somewhere in between.
fred zappa is an enormous queer
>>74447983
>>74448007
I haven't tried either, downloading both as I type this
>>74448007
i am absolutely nutting all over this.
yes, but not as much as i did when i was 13
Mac DeMarco for progfags
>>74444145
I'd put Frank in my top 5 honestly, but even I agree with this sentiment.
>>74444241
They're likely to be someone who think's they're "above it all" like he did, acts really smug and snobbish, and will act like any music not in 13/16 is pop garbage.
>>74445038
Nice, same here. Are you going after original pressings specifically or just any decently-priced ones you can?
>>74444132
Willie The Pimp needs to be longer.
i love the mothers so much
their first 4 albums was one of the best album streaks in popular music history like jesus
>>74452225
true
>>74444712
>Thinking Zappa is Prog.
