What's the nature of this release? Is it re-recorded material, or live versions, or simply a compilation?
Heard this a couple weeks back, it's great. Haven't heard any of his new stuff past Hell Money, should probably remedy that. But MMM and Flowers are pretty high bars to reach.

On a related note, what's with a lot of neofolk/apocalyptic folk projects being so into sexual deviancy? E.g. Spiritual Front, ORO, etc. Not that it's an issue for me, on the contrary I think it adds a lot to the aesthetic those bands in particular cultivate.

>I think it adds a lot to the aesthetic those bands in particular cultivate.
there's your answer

It's a live album recorded in front of a small group of people in Hamburg's Hansa Studios. If you liked it, make sure to check out The Hyperion Machine. I'm sure you can tell how stripped down and serious the tone is in comparison to his earlier output, everything is crisp and clear with hardly any samples, noise or production effects on top - this approach is also characteristic of The Hyperion Machine, which after some listening I think is his trongest album yet. Excellent musical craftsmanship and lyrics that poetically disect the political situation in/between Europe and Arabia.

I think it might be helpful to acquaint yourself with Vama Marga ("left-hand path") occultism, which is where artists like Ordo Equilibrio draw their inspiration. Nikolas Schreck or Radio Werewolf together with his wife Zeena (also of Radio Werewolf, also the daughter of Anton LaVey) has written an enlightening book about this, "Demons Of The Flesh", which you can find on libgen dot io. Basically, it's about self-deification through systematic ecstasy, in contrast to the "right-hand path" which is about enlightenment through asceticism.

Great album.
I wish Kim would revisit Solanaceae. It was such a great concept, and I really appreciated him bringing other people in to contribute (Unto Ashes, Novemthree, Arrowwood). Hell, I'd be excited just to hear new material from him that's not Vril Jager.
Whoops, I just did a google search right before I posted this. Turns out he's involved in a darkwave project called White Chamber that put out something this year. Neat.

Thanks. I was referring to the :OTWATM: record in the OP, not the Hansa record, which I did hear. I thought it was superb.
And I'll look into Vama Marga as well. Through my upbringing I've always been more of a RHP kind of person, even though I've strayed from whatever religious dogma I once subscribed to. Difficult to break into an alternative mindset, but the LHP philosophy has always interested me. Thanks for the explanation.

Oh, in that case yes, those are re-recordings. Sounds like they're from a small session in a home studio with some friends, rather stripped down musically but beautiful nonetheless.

That's a great album, actually. It might sound boring and simplistic and the lyrics might sound overly nationalist and political on first glance but on repeated, more attentive listens it reveals its lyrically spiritual nature as well as easily overlooked details in composition.
>>74422907
Thanks for the White Chamber hint, hadn't checked that out yet! Kim really is a great musician and Solanacae is a beautiful project. He's just so very intimidating in person, dude gives me the creeps.

I guess it's okay to pass if you listened to the entirety of the genre and determined that there are only 5 good albums in it.

There goes my hopes of ever playing Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings in the background of my streams. . .
But hey, do you think Empyrium will ever release another autumn night neofolk album like Weiland again?

Wow, that's good. Thanks, Anon!
I am far left on the political spectrum
Could I enjoy neofolk or is something impossible for people like me?

>>74428273
Well I'm pretty bottom right but I enjoy hella left music, understand that a lot of neofolk bands are more conservative in that they're proud of their culture rather than hateful of others

Are you a green anarchist? If so, you'll fit right in.

If you want to know more about the politics (or rather meta-politics / apoliteia), read the academic articles I linked.
Now, no more talk about politics in this thread. You can ask questions in the other thread if you want. This one is exclusively for music and swoonin at pictures of Miro Snejdr.

part of it is probably that neofolk came from industrial so the culture of weird sex shit kinda carried over as well
