I've decided to hit up this list to see what casual listeners and enthusiasts alike call the greatest albums: http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-greatest-albums-of-all-time
From there, I was to listen to the albums I've put off for so long and see if I could praise them as much as others do. But holy shit. #25. Hotel California. This is, by far, the most soulless, boring, by-the-numbers 70s pop rock album I've ever stumbled upon in my unfortunate timeline of existence. It felt like listening to a vinyl copy of Rumours that was drenched with margarita and coconut water. There's a decent melody thrown in here and there, yeah, but that's what I expect from pop. I have no idea how people can disown modern pop[ular] music when generic shit like this was lurking around in the past.
Long story short, I've learned exactly what dad rock is today and now I'm disappointed.
