This isn't remotely controversial.

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most overrated bands in rock. I could count the amount of great songs they have on one hand, and this number is greatly outnumbered by the amount of awful, unlistenable songs they have. Corgan is a mediocre guitarist and people who praise his playing clearly don't play guitar as 90% of what he does is play octave chords through a big muff. He is also one of the worst vocalists in rock and his lyrics often sink to linkin park levels of unbearable edginess.

i actually disagree, love the pumpkins, but what bugs me is as a 20 year guitar player is hearing you say Bi-Corg is mediocre. Billy Corgan is a capable lead rock guitarist, he's CLEARLY got chops and it's very obvious is you listen to their albums. He's not like Satriani level, but he's as good or better than other rock heroes like Slash, Jerry Cantrell, Kirk Hammett, whatever
