From what I gather, Suhr makes decent instruments, however, they are pricey. I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping 1k+ for a guitar that I haven't tried. Look up reviews, look at the scale length, fret size, and decide if this guitar would be good for you. I really douby anyone here on /gg/ has gotten a Suhr when everyone plays squiers, condor's, and epiphones.

The original critisizm (which I now assume was meant as an insult) was " I can hear your strings more than the amp/guitar, stop being sloppy" Which i took to mean my heavy pick attack was sloppy, which is what I was defending.

You are right though, I never claimed to be good but you are fair in the playing of the last bit was not super clean and pristine, still practicing every day like I should be.

However I also didn't intend for it to be a 5 star pedal review, and I can also only assume that the heavy attack didn't help, but I can basically assure you my pick attack is always that heavy.
>>
>>74373185
>i-i am not wrong! its all because my attack is strong!

>>
>>74373304
Where did I say I'm not wrong in the last post? I actually said you were right about the later playing being sloppy, and that I am still practicing everyday like I should be. I merely said the pick attack didn't help at all since the sound of the strings being struck was close to the camera/phone position.

now "best" is a bit to subjective
>>
>>74370651
Software can't do that at some point you need real physical hardware you fucking idiot.
>>
>>74370901
String noise isn't the same as heavy pick attack, I never even mentioned your pick attack, that being said consider the fact that plenty of really good players manage to have a heavy pick attack without letting every single string other than the one they pick ring out all at once. Use your fucking hands to mute the strings you aren't meaning to play.

It has nothing to do with proximity btw it's all technique or in this case lack thereof.
>>
>>74374375
I should also mention know what fucking note you're gonna play before you play it, stop fucking flailing randomly at notes. You don't need to half ass slide into every other note because you hadn't considered what you were gonna play next. (I'm the original commenter not the dude green texting you)

Lastly, sync up both hands make sure a note is fretted cleanly before you pick the string.
>>
>>74374500
>know what fucking note you're gonna play before you play it

confirmed for not being able to play guitar
>>
>>74374547
Not him, but what about that sentiment isn't right to you?
>>
>>74374375
>>74374500
I took string noise to mean that you could hear me hit the strings since I was standing close - my bad there senpai. The only time I let notes ring out was usually when i meant to, though I can think of a few points when i played impulse near the end where I did mess that up a bit. Again mostly my bad, just heard the modulation and was reminded of the guitar tone, played some of it that I could remember. That's on me though, it wasn't super great but I'm also not a professional reviewer or guitar player and the video was originally just for some peeps in a chat im in.

as for
> know what fucking note you're gonna play before you play it, stop fucking flailing randomly at notes
there was no point where I was flailing at notes nor where I was half-ass sliding into every other note because I hadn't considered what I was playing next, considering the notes were in a scale anytime I actually used legato, or sliding power chords because that is usually what players who use fuzz do, at least in doom/stoner which is what I play.
>>
>>74374690
When you are improvising a solo the only thing you are really thinking about is the shape of the scale you are in so you stay in key.
If you had to stop and think about every note you might hit you wouldn't be playing very long.

Yes, when you're an amateur

>If you had to stop and think about every note
You're stuck in an amateur mindset. You don't have to pause to find notes, it's an instantaneous connection once you get good and actually know the music and the notes instead of just guitar-oriented shapes and patterns. Basically - play from your head, not your hands
>>
>>74374864

All it means is know the notes you're playing and choose them for a reason. If all you do is play aimlessly within the scale, then sure it'll technically work but there won't be any real feeling or conviction to it

Play from your head (i.e. your brain knowing the theory, connections, and feelings between chosen lead notes and the backing), not your hands (i.e. learned muscle memory regurgitating ultimately meaningless melodies)

>>
>>74377001
>If its clean guitar work you do

yeah i mostly play clean with some reverb and delay

i don't care who used it before but i'm wondering how it affects the sound. i know it's used often for funk type stuff

i just assumed johnny marr used it because he always will pick chords and single note melodies and they will somehow have close to the same volume (which obviously is really hard to do without a compressor because single notes will be much quieter)
>>
>>74377045
It tightens up/focuses your picking level, it adds sustain, and even in some settings limits volume spikes. You'll get a much more even sound and articulation
>>
>>74376965
What are you talking about senpai, I never said I was blaming it on anything else. I made a somewhat justifiable - but still one in the end - excuse, but that's about it famalam.

I don't know if you expected something professional grade from a phone camera angle above a pedalboard view.

>>74376994
you can grab a couple used tube combos for that cheap, Vox AC4 can be found for around that much and is perfect for that.

>>74376954
compressors work great for getting a tube sound at low volumes. It really fattens up clean notes, not much use for driven tones since it's already compressed.
>>
>>74377099
yeah i know what it does but my question is about how frequently used it is. why doesn't every guitarist have a compressor on their board? are there drawbacks to using one? what reasons would someone have for not using one?

and i also know that distortion compresses your sound anyway so this obviously doesn't apply to anyone playing stuff with distortion

i'm assuming country players use compression a good amount

>>74377134

In our studio we use it on clean guitar. You lose a lot of dynamics and the tone can sound brittle if used on distorted guitar. If you want sustain for a distorted guitar amp use a boost or low gain overdrive pedal to hit the front end.
>>
>>74377215
those THRs are perfect for that use too, I dont know how I missed those. The X version I also hear is awesome
>>
>>74377224
would you say most clean guitar sounds you hear in songs have a compressor on them? or is it more of a niche thing?
>>
>>74377268
Compression is an industry standard to keep signals in check. I suggest going to your local guitar store and trying a couple different compressors out. Try the MXR dynacomp, the boss compressor, and maybe some boutique pedals like Keeley or even the Joe Meek Q pedal. How its used really comes down to what you are going to be playing. You can gig a clean tone without a compressor, It comes down to whether you want that certain edge and focus.
>>
>>74377343
>Compression is an industry standard to keep signals in check.
ok cool that's really what i wanted to know.

a friend brought over his dynacomp once, it sounded pretty good. i'm gonna probably head to guitar center tomorrow or the next day to try some out.

I want to gift my brother a proper electric guitar, I'd say hes still a noob but he does put in the effort.

Is there anything around the $400 price range that won't get replaced in a year? He already has a shitty amp, be he constantly complains about his current POS guitar (one of those everything for 100 bucks packages), his main grip is the action, I know jack shit about guitars and I rather buy him something that just werks.

Money is key here, what do, /gg/?
>>
>>74379311
What kind of music does he play?
>>
>>74379345

He knows a couple of Buckethead's easier songs but seems mostly interested in heavy metal, for example he was just now learning the riff from "I don't wanna be me" by Type O Negative.

The AMP is shitty as well but I rather invest on a good guitar first.

Every chord that doesn't use an open string is movable and will change the letter name in front of the chord. If you move this whole apparatus one fret toward the bridge, it becomes F Major 9, for example.

You can move open chords as well, your finger acts like a capo when you play barre chords, for example.

its as gay as you want it to be.

Ultimately developing any skill to an impressive level shows an ability to commit and technical/hand based skills tend to be very visibly which helps, so as much as anything else it will help you pull gash

BUT no more than anything else really, i mean i guess its more accessible than if you whipped out an accordion but tbqh if you had the balls to do that you'd probably rake in the ham clam at a rate unimaginable to most guitar players

I've been playing guitar for 11 years, and I literally CANNOT find a good online source on how to play guitar.
That is, I can't find a good beginners course on guitar, or a good intermediate/advanced course on guitar.
And I've searched the internet very thoroughly.

That is why I always wanted to make a free course, or on some way share what I've picked up over the years. If somebody told me stuff I know now years earlier, I would have been a much better player now.
The only times I advanced musically was when I took classes.
I was taking classes when I started playing for two years, so I really think I know how to explain to a beginner what's the best approach to start playing.
Also, later in my career, I had to spill out a few grand for some more serious classes that focused on theory/improvising. And the stuff I learned definitely did help, but it shouldn't cost that much money, imho. The problem I had was that NOWHERE on the internet could I find the information I was looking for, for free.

So I always wanted to share what I learned for free somehow - this includes the beginners tips (what to focus on mostly, basic terms, songs to practice that will teach you the most stuff you need to know, and advance you to the next level, both musically and technically), and it also includes tips and secrets on improvising and understanding what you're playing.
This is something that I wish I understood earlier, but as I said I couldn't grasp it alone, and freely available information on the internet did not help.

>those that can ...do
>those that can't teach
Check out this red flag:
>The only times I advanced musically was when I took classes.
Anybody concerned with advancing goes to music, you think Jimi Hendrix went to some nerd class on theory? No, he didn't. Too busy learning to play by playing with actual musicians.
Another red flag right here:
>I always wanted to share what I learned for free somehow

Most of the bands you probably listen to had records out by the time they were in their early 20s and they probably started playing in their early teens. Think about that for a minute. By year 11 you ought to have better shit to be doing than looking for beginner courses on the internet. That or you ain't got what it takes, in which case you're like this stupid fuck wasting your time posting on 4chan about your "career" (lol).

A real musician worth his salt wouldn't even have the time to be thinking about stupid shit like this, and he certainly would be trying to find a way to work for free. These are all clues to the reality of the type of person who posted that bullshit.

He ain't got nothing goin' on, believe it.

Don't kid yourself into thinking you'll get a dozen project guitars. Focus on one at a time. Realistically it would cost me a grand to get all the pickup combos I want to try out. Sure you can get blow out deals on craigslist at the beginning of the month and rent is late by a week for some people, but there is no reason to try and be a guitar dealer. That was your dads job. I didn't mess with it besides strings replacements over the years. What happened was is that over time the strings just dug into the nut it now happened that it's buzzing.

Nothing else that I've inspected is causing the issue.

>>74387414
You could lift the nut and add a shim in there if that's really the cause, a thin piece of veneer is more than enough, but what ever it's your instrument.
The neck also has an effect on fret buzz as well as bridge hight.

Man fuck off, I never said I was a professional musician. By 'career' I mean the time I've been playing.
I still play on my Squier bullet guitar. I never recorded anything. Nor do I plan to make music my career.
What I am able to do is go to jam sessions regularly and play on top of ANY chord progression, and always know what to play without sounding repetitive, old, bland and dull.

What I did want to share is how to start playing the guitar, and how to take the next step.

When you're starting, instead of going online and looking at videos that tell "put this finger here and that finger there", it's far more effective if you learn to count properly, and read rhythm. After you get the basic idea, going through TABS of SRV songs will surely give you a great start.

When you want to start improvising, instead of being stuck in that one pentatonic shape, and always trying to learn what the modes are, but keep failing because you can't find a good explanation online, I'd easily explain what the order of brightness and diatonic orders are, how to understand whats relative and whats parallel, and how to connect the 7 3-notes-per-string pattern with each other and with the pentatonic shapes.

I'm not trying to sell anything here fuck, I just thought this was useful, and it's not explained well anywhere (at least I couldn't find a descent explanation online without quitting due to frustration).
>>
>>74387530
thanks for the advice bud.

the guitar is about 10 years old and I've always eye-balled and gone by feel when doing my own setups (never used the stew mac tools) so I'm aware of truss rod and bridge adjustments. I know it's not the proper way but I've only ever done it for my guitar.

Relax, I'm just memeing.

The best thing you could be doing with your time is practicing and not wasting it posting retarded bullshit on 4chan. It'll be a good sign when these garbage ass threads finally dry up.
