Kanye specifically said the lack of packaging for that record was because he would never have one of his albums be put into physical media again.
The CD is dead, and Yeezus was its open casket.

On a podcast Kanye explained that the cover is supposed to represent a open casket for cd's as a format because it's pretty much dead as a musical medium, everything is digital now. Also iirc he original wanted it to be digital only release with the album cover being a .gif and iTunes was down with this idea but he went with the open casket cd idea instead.
