Currently listening to one of my favorite country songs from the past few years: "Record Year" by Eric Church. Eric Church gas a few other good songs too.

I'm also a big fan of indie country acts like Jason Isbell and Lydia Loveless--those are my top two favorite. I think I will listen to Lydia Loveless's "Real" album next. It is amazingly good. Very sarcastic, mellow, yet catchy and melodic.
I've also always loved the mature, masculine lonesome old cowboy trope that frequently appears in country music, particularly classic country. That's why I really get angry when I hear new country music being the music of the belligerent, loud, obnoxious drunk white trash. Old country had it right to appeal to the rational, thoughtful, masculine kind of person. It's a case of classlessness overcoming classiness. Which you can probably demonstrate parallels in today's politics, culture, and whatnot.
Enough rambling, what country music are you guys listening to tonight?

Is there a better country song than "Something More Than Free" by Jason Isbell?
I didn't think so.
The day my mama socked it to, the Harper Valley PTA!
I honestly tear up when I hear this song. The video is great too.

No thank you.
Can anyone recommed any country that makes use of the pedal steel guitar? Or the steel/slide guitar in general? I love that sound! Something like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUh0GOrFZVo

I'm a dadrock guy but I like Bakersfield and Honky Tonk, I hear none of it on today's country radio. Also, isn't it supposed to be country AND WESTERN? Where's the Marty Robbins style cowboy songs? It's all cheap imitations of Appalachian music and no Arizona stuff.
