what was your reaction to this when it came out?
I'm not really liking what we've heard from Villains so far, reminds me too much of Era Vulgaris which I also didn't like, thought it was too silly.
But this record was just the right amount of grim, gritty, down-to-Earth depression and it's honestly become my favorite QOTSA album now, I don't think Homme will ever top this unless he goes into another drug-induced-comma again.
One of those albums to listen to on the beach for me
Not anything special or profound about it.
I loved it

You didn't find anything particularly gripping in the lyrics or the feel of the album?

Sorry, I put it wrong. I never took it seriously so I never looked for apart from catchy pop rock lyrics and rhythms that appeal to ear. It was a personal comment. Perhaps I should give it an active listening.

Honestly I'm getting the feeling that Villains is gonna be Incredible.
I have a friend who is massively into them, I just like them.

I like it. Songs for the deaf will always be their best album, and is their only real concept album. But like clockwork in particular mad me realize that qotsa needs to write the next 007 Opening theme song

Do it for me, do it for anon.
This album accompanied me during a break up from a traumatic 5 year relationship. The last two songs give me immense feels. The rest brings me back to all the binge smoking and drinking I was doing to cope.

I didn't like it. I thought it was too slow and boring, with riffs that just weren't that fun to listen to.

It felt like they matured as artists, but in a bad way. It's not a bad album but it bore me so much even after repeated listens.
Not to hype about villains, but it's a step up no doubt.
