because their first album was called leg end and the end of a leg is a foot and you put socks on feet
it's a really good joke and a bit of a striking image so they figured it was enough to brand themselves by "we are the band with sock"
unrest is basically meaning restless leg syndrome and, you guessed it, you need to put on some socks and get moving when that happens
in praise of learning doesn't have much to do with legs or feet per se but by now the public had learned that socks = henry cow and that's the magic of advertising - however by being literal about their scheme, it was the last move they could make with it; thus ended the sock era
