This is also beautiful.
Cocteau Twins "pre-raphaelite" era is excellent. This EP and Treasure.
Las Vegas is a good record too. Whole album that one. But it's more motherly and warm than the prettier tracks of their early career.

does pretty == has a female singer in your mind? You didn't even pick out which of the four songs you're referring to, but if you don't think Infant Eyes is a gorgeous song then your ears are shit.
>>74344995
Good song.
Not pretty though.
Pretty has to have "air" to it.
That's too wet.
>>74345092

If ya know what I mean.
It's too grounded.
Too Earthy.
Needs the air of angels. The delicate fragility. The glimmer of stars.

Also:
I meant aesthetically. It's a quality, not a judgemental ranking or anything like that.
As I said, it was nice. But it didn't fit.

These are pretty. They got that delicate nature to it. That cute sexiness but innocence too.
To be honest pretty is very hard to explain now that I think about it.

>>74345241
Very pretty.
Anything Futurepunk/Futurewave tends to be very pretty. But there's that dynamic to in-tenseness at times which kinda exaggerates or brings out the pretty delicateness of the softer parts.
First song on this is to me quintessential of that. Amazing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9L4q-0Pi4E
But only pretty in it's soft bits and approach to dynamics.
Themes also bring out that aspect. The colours and emotions. The rollercoaster.
Many pretty songs have warm low backs and then very "shiny" and even tinny sounds over it.
And prettiness differs from beauty, which is usually overpowering.
>>74343784
>ctrl-F "new grass"
my nigga
>>74345464
First song is pretty, but the voice needs more air to bring it out. Also needs more separation of sound.
Needs space.
It sounds like im stuck in a very small, cramped closet with a very pretty angel.

Sounds like a goddess. Music is so warm with colour and it just melts the vocals into this stunning gentle, bright feeling when you here it.
That's prettiness. It's when you catch the emotion on every part of the vocalization. You don't just listen to the lyrics, you hear what they truly mean to the person through the way it's vocalised.

makes me very happy to find another Randy Newman fan on here. Genius songwriter. Birmingham is indeed the shiznit.
>>74348562
All of it is so great! He's got such a unique style. It sort of makes me think of Warren Zevon, but the atmosphere is more like, music hall or stage show levels of production. Very good all around. Oh and yeah, his songwriting great. It's super intimate and personal, almost like he's always writing about the true experiences of the everyman
