>Is a pussy but complains about wimpiness of acts he reviews
>Constantly takes lyrics literally and ascribes male chauvinism to them
>Complains about stuff being too masculine, complains about stuff being too feminine but passes it off as critiquing a lack of worldliness - simultaneously rating music on feminist credentials yet how long the artist would survive in prison
>Researches artist backgrounds looking for gripes, usually something to do with affluence
>Thinks his arbitrary hangups are universal
Why did this cunt ever hold sway? It's just some insane guy talking to himself.

Because he poorly copied Lester Bangs in trying to be witty, and gave a voice to losers who hate prog.

I don't like either of those things. e.g. I'll see one of his reviews of an album I don't like but he'll go on some cryptic rant to cover up the fact that he's mad because the guy made a literary reference and someone he knows and doesnt like reads that book or some shit

You could ascribe at least half of this to nearly all music critics and critical publications. Usually, none of his commentary is particularly informative or brings forth critique or praise that the average music listener could discern on their own. His are just corny snarks all about.
Music critics are in business because people (music fans who live vicariously through the life and work of an artist and build their personality around it) are so given to treating music like a game or a competition, and feel the need for an ultimate authority figure to agree with them to further validate an opinion, even if it isn't really any more valid than the that of another. I could write a fucking essay on this, fucking kill me.
