opeth are a pretty eclectic band honestly. even if you're not down with the more death metal-y stuff, their past three albums have been much more traditionally prog in a very porc. tree vein, so check those out maybe.

tool, more than anything, are pretty much just a highly dressed up and technical alt-rock band. not that there's anything wrong with that, but desu most alt and radio rock bands sound more like tool that stuff that's actually considered prog metal.
