Older games had to compose melodies of 1-2 minute length, with minimal complexity, and they had to be so good that you didn't hate them after hearing them on loop forever while you play.

It's no wonder it sounds good to people.

well the thing is that sometimes they are. people who listen to only/mostly OSTs are questionable though
