Holy shit. Can we talk about how good this is?
It's a high schoolers snake charm for loose women
>>74276966
Generic 60's psych pop revival. It's really nothing special senpai
>>74276966
Northern Downpour is Panic!s best song
>>74277017
t. haven't listened to the album.
XD
>>74277017
but scene kids hated this album
back in '07 when they ditched the eyeliner all the emo teens when insane, they wanted more fever, not whatever this was
in the end people ended up liking it anyway but still
>>74276966
honestly if Ryan Ross died tomorrow it would be ok because he made this for the earth
i loved this in high school
then, in college, i listened to Fever for the first time
this album is pretty bad, my dude. great ideas, but worn out after the first four or five songs. the last three are really excellent, though. if you liked it, try The Young Veins' "Take a Vacation!" It's all the fun 60's garage pop with less of the...length
It's a good album but a lot of its fans overrate it.
>>74276966
the rawr xds rejected this pretty hard actually- they were expecting another pop punk effort and got something pretty patrician
>>74276966
It's okay. I remember thinking it was mind-blowing in middle school but then I listened to Pet Sounds and all the albums that inspired it and it doesn't feel all that special going back. Northern Downpour is a really good song.
>>74277175
fever is my favorite album by them, but pretty odd is a close second. i, too, love crying to ryan ross' voice, hoping he returns from war soon
pas de cheval came up on shuffle while i was typing this
>>74277230
i think "Folkin' Around" might by my pick for "best" from the album, just because it still carries some of the PatD snottiness, and doesn't have a really monotonous one-line chorus. again, just my experience, but it doesn't have the authenticity that i wish it did. i can really tell that they're trying to emulate a sound, which they did very well, but it stopped there
i liked it desu
once i couldnt sleep so i turned off all the lights, plugged my headphones, laid back on my bed, closed my eyes and listened to it, nonstop. its quite the experience

by far
I heard P!atD decided to write this album in some far away cabin in the woods? Any one can confirm?
>>74277440
yes and no
basically in early '07 they went to a cabin in the woods to record their album and they had in mind a fantasy concept album, sort of like a disney musical but more grown up
however, they went insane being so far away from people that they dropped the entire album and all its progress, it was set to be named "Cricket and Clover" and there are a few samples of the remaining demos and lyrics online bc Ryan's hard drive committed seppuku so that album, known also as "the cabin album" doesnt exist
after that they did some shows in mid '07 and recorded the actual second album, pretty odd, in late '07 and early '08 before its release in march.
PO was recorded in Palms Casino Resort in their hometown Vegas with finishing production in London in Abbey Road Studios
Totally underrated album.
Legitimately creative and welll-written
Used to drive around backroads with my girlfriend in high school and listen to this album.
Good times
this band actually had some talent, too bad the lead singer was gayer than George Michael carrying a bag of dicks
I hate P!atD (and pretty much every other pop punk band) but this album is alright. It'll never be a favorite of mine, but I do enjoy it.
Got it recently, was pretty surprised I enjoyed it, considering I think their other albums are meh.
>>74277860
R.I.P
:( I still haven't moved on from his death
>>74277860
i think most of the talent resided a lot on Ryan Ross' influence, considering it all went to shit when he left the band he started
but considering Ryan's solo stuff is pretty bad, i'd like to think that him and Brendon complimented each other nicely
really hoping for that reunion someday
guess its time to listen to it again

fever>vices>pretty odd>everything else imo
except for some reason every bonus track on vices was dope as hell and could have made the cut for the actual tracklist
>>74278375
weren't there like 9 bonus tracks for Vices across all the different platforms? Shit could've been its own entire album
>>74278396
I think there were 6 total, honestly yeah they probably could have put together a few more and had another albums worth of material before Too Weird to Live
definitely check those tracks out if you haven't though
>>74278442
>Bittersweet
>I Wanna Be Free
>Kaleidoscope Eyes
>Oh Glory (demo)
>Stall Me
>Turn Off the Lights
Yeah 6 in total, I was a bit off lol. They're all pretty dope though, surprised they spread out sooo many songs across the board for just one album.
it's pretty good but not nearly as good as you guys seem to think it is.
why does everything have to be "shit" or "amazing" to you guys? some music, such as this album, qualifies as "okay"
>listening to green gentleman
>a song inherently about weed
>"little deaths in musical beds"
>little deaths = mindblowing orgasms
>musical beds = multiple sexual partners
based
>>74278375
desu with you all i liked most of the tracks in vices but i was put off by the structure and i feel like the general feeling of the record was inconsistent
first he's all "psh i dont need you guys im fine on my own" then "i love sarah" then "im so sorry guys please come back" then back to hating on them again
but its not bad, its better than the recent stuff
the fade out of the piano knows something i dont know gives me chills
>>74278581
i feel a bit similarly, and desu if Vices didn't have the bonus tracks it would probably be under Pretty Odd for me.
and yeah Too Weird To Live has a couple worthwhile songs but is just... not good overall
>>74278659
i agree, for the longest time i felt like too weird was below doab but now i dont know
>>74278659
Definitely some gems on Too Weird To Live but not that good as a whole.
I DONT LOVE YOU IM JUST PASSING THE TIME
YOU COULD LOVE ME IF I KNEW HOW TO LIE
BUT WHO COULD LOVE ME I AM OUT OF MY MIND
these tears are real
>>74278688
>>74278700
Even if i'm not huge on TWTL I definitely think it's above DoaB, even the strongest tracks on DoaB didn't do it for me
>>74278761
This. The only songs I really vibe with on that project are Hallelujah and Emperor's New Clothes. I find it funny how that was the album that made people give a fuck about panic again.
>>74278761
i completely agree
I've gone from loving this to liking it to thinking it's mediocre to loving it again. Nothing they've done since has really impressed me. Ryan really let his influences show, but I feel like Brendan kept it from devolving into straight up 60s psych pop worship and kept a little bit of the edge they had on Fever. I'm guessing the fan reaction to this album is what made Brendan think he should have more creative input and Ryan think that Brendan was holding him back. I don't blame either of them, but it's a shame music this good broke the band up.
>>74278726
;_;
There was real emotion on this album.
>>74278808
*Brendon, sorry I had to
Now that I think about it, Jon Walker may be the key to this album considering he was the second lyricist and its the only Panic! album he worked on. My theory is cemented by the fact Ryan straight up ditched his childhood best friend and Brendon to start a new band with him. Either Ryan believed in music with Jon more than music with Brendon/Spencer or things were really staring to go downhill for them in an interpersonal level.
>>74278842
>tfw I've been spelling his name wrong this entire time
Honestly thank you, no one has called me out on it and idk why I thought it was spelled that way.
I didn't know that about Jon though, I always thought it was basically just Brendon and Ryan that were the main contributors.
Only partially related but I thought for the longest time that Ryan Ross was a British dude. I guess it doesn't really make sense thinking back on it now, because I knew that at least some of the band members went way back and that everyone else was American. Maybe it was his blatant influence by The Beatles that made me think that, or maybe the way he sung registered to me as British. But it wasn't until last year that I realized he's American through and through
