>listen to other jazz
>bored af because the rhythm is trash
Anyone got any suggestions? This album wrecked a lot of jazz because it made my realize how mediocre a lot of drummers are.

Bump, I'm in the same situation as you

Go down the Elvin Jones rabbithole dude.
Almost all of the classic quartet stuff is god tier (Listen to Sun Ship), also he has great performances on Andrew Hill's Judgment and his own album Live at the Lifehouse

Pretend- tapestry'd life
listen to Bus Ride by kaytranada (karriem riggins kills it on drums)
>>74274273
That has great drumming, but he asked for jazz, not classical

Math rock is kind of similar to jazz...
don cherry mu pt 1
Check out any modern day record like say...
David Binney - Lifted Land
Rudresh Mahanthappa - Gamak
a lot of them have very cool stereo mixing of each individual part of the drumset, and sorta like Elvin do a combo of sorta grooves plus more technical stuff.

not even the best drumming on a trane album
check out rashied ali on interstellar space and get back to me
>>74275713
Rashied is good but Elvin is fucking transcendent dude. Have you heard ascension? He's the only drummer on that album but he sounds massive

does this float your boat?
No good jazz drummers? What's up with all these casual motherfuckers? I'm really angered that nobody has even mentioned Philly Joe Jones in a goddamn Coltrane thread. None of you post again until you've listened to more stuff.

Anything with Buddy Rich or Art Blakey

Ali and Elvin are better.

ESPECIALLY this album by the way
Black Saint
>inb4 that guy

>t. I only listened to the first track on ALS

>t. I only listened to the first track on Black Saint
I will say I haven't listened to ALS in a while so you might be right
>>74277488
You do know that ALS' tracks after the first one don't do grooves at all like TBSATSL does the entire album, right? Can't believe I have to explain my 't.' joke now. /mu/'s gone downhill with the amount of retards who listen to three albums and pretend like they know their shit.
>>74277527
I've listened to a good amount of jazz albums, and not all of TBS does grooves. Just because there are "grooves" doesn't mean its bad, are you saying On The Corner, Ege Bamyasi, and Head Hunters have bad drumming?
>>74277626
No, I am saying that it's a terrible example for what OP wants because it has nowhere near the variation of rhythm stuff that ALS does.

this album was a huge disappointment for me the first time i heard it
