bump I want to see this general more often

good thread OP
I'm going slightly autistic over this Excel sheet of chord progressions I'm compiling.
>>74267566
Why are you doing this?
>>74267611
Nice to have as a reference when doing modal interchange, I'd imagine.
>>74267566
How do the chords in white function?
>>74267684
They are just fill chords whose roots are not diatonic to the scale. I'd try to make all of their third and fifths diatonic to the scale though. Hence the aug chords, which don't progress very well. It could be replaced by a diminished chord.
Do you faggots do all your composition by hand? Or do you have some kind of program you use to notate?
Have you used your own name as a theme yet, /comp/?

I took your fill chord idea and used it as a modulation tool to bridge two unrelated keys. I think it worked nicely, even if its just three bars.

>being this full of oneself
>>74268449
the modulation sounds like going to E bc of the double dominant. the f# dominant comes a bit surprising, you would expect the b being a pedal point. If you want to be able to play it on piano put the c# of the second chord in the left hand

I'm working on a new thing since a few days
>>74268667
I think Bach is allowed to be that full of oneself.
Played around with a whole-half scale to see what I can make of it in term of resolutions and such. It's not long and I'm not exactly happy with the end product but I learn some cool chords and voicings, I guess.

Dude you have spread sheets of this stuff too! Cool!
>ywn even come close to the masters, even with perfect pitch and incredible musicality
>>74271316
stop writing shit music then anon
>>74271316
How do I get started in composition? Theory has been pretty hard on me so far
>>74272174
improvise a melody on the piano
write it down
harmonize it
>>74272321
would starting with a basic understanding of 12 be a horrible idea?
>>74272321
Not anon but what the hell does harmonize even mean. What do you do to harmonize?
>>74272174
Continue learning theory for one, and secondly come up with a idea. I find it useful to write about something rather than just scribbling notes. Look at a painting, watch a movie, whatever you want then write what you hear in your head. Your song should only be 1:00-2:00 since you are having trouble and are just starting out. And before you begin have a structure laid out, A B A1, which means write a piece of music that's maybe 16bars in length for section A, do something different to contrast section A in section B, then come back to section A but with slight variations, which is what A1 means.
>>74272361
Add notes on top of a melody.
>>74272361
you could build chords around the notes, usually in thirds
