It was probably edgy and awesome when it came out but it has definetely aged like milk. It is borderline dad rock.

How is this music not considered pleb in this board?

It'll always astound me that bands like Joy Division, The Smiths, The Pixies, and Nirvana are some of the most highly acclaimed bands ever. They made some of the most musically simple stuff out there while also not having the energy of their peers like say...Gang Of Four, or Guns N Roses who otherwise often get lambasted for making simplistic music by the same people who love these four bands.

Joy division's only good song is shadowplay and the last song from Closer but it is without a doubt that this bands delivered subpar music. Those bands are the dadrock of this era
