What's /mu/'s opinion on instrument destruction?
Pete perfected it

I think it's sometimes cool. It was a cliche for a long time, but almost no one does it anymore.. I've only seen it done one time in person. The band was "Midnight".

Been there done that. It's fun. If you do it with expensive guitars you're a douche.
Can be very cringe if not executed properly:

I remember seeing him do that and thinking. "Man, I really miss Nirvana."

It's what Squier strats exist for.

What about when Hendrix did it?

Kek never seen someone try to smash a guitar without taking it off first.

Sensei Kurt had a lot of practice with it. Motherfucker smashed guitars even when he was poor, he took a couple of tries in the vid, but when you smash them from the headstock on the stage instead of the body it imparts more force on the neck of the guitar, making it much easier to break.
And don't ever give some dumb or edgy speech before doing it, instrument destruction is supposed to be part of the set, you don't stop music for it.

cultural appropriation

That made a really cool sound
It's just a cool-looking way to make the audience stop begging for encores.
