Krautrock is and always will be a racist and Germanophobic term. Some original musicians of the so-called Krautrock scene are avoiding it, considering it a negative, degrading term. We should avoid it as well, to respect both those artists and Germans in general.
>>74193671
>We should respect Germans
Sure, when Germans start respecting the Germans.

Fuck you I'm Polish.
Can is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Faust is a great band, but everything they did well, the industrial, post-punk, and noise rock bands they influenced did better.
Neu! were a nice groove band, but nothing really that special. It's mind boggling how overrated they are.
Kraftwerk is also overrated.
But I can see why you like Can.

>>74193671
Nah, it's either
Jazz: large variety of techniques exclusive to the guitar involved to create certain kinds of sounds.
Totalism: emphasizes the guitar's ability to create certain sounds by modifying the guitar itself (eg. large arrangement of guitars, harmonics, prepared guitar, etc.)
Metal: goes the furthest of the guitar based rock genres to take advantage of the strings' percussive aspect to create the most hard hitting form of rock which could not be achieved without the guitar.
Genres like Krautrock, Post-Punk or Prog Rock, which are other genres where there's sometimes cool guitar bits, aren't as predicated on the guitar. Neither are folky ones like Blues which can be done with other instruments with no fundamental changes.
>any rock genre

>Totalism
Would MBV and ambient forms of guitar music fall under this?
>>74195385
What did you have in mind when you say "ambient forms of guitar music"? And MBV is more production based than guitars based, so they wouldn't count.
>>74195424
But isn't the production specifically to do with the guitars themselves?
>>74195235
>they laid the foundations for modern electronic music
lol what?
is this what the rock community thinks about kraftwerk?
they pioneered synthpop, that's it. synthpop is 40 years old, not exactly modern.

No. Mostly based in mixing, reverb, white noise, and sampling.
>>74195877
no, he means physical manipulation of guitars, not manipulation of the sounds produced by guitars
