>10,000+ years of folk
>1000+ years of classical
>100 years of jazz
>80 years of r&b/funk/soul/pbr&b
>80 years of electronic music
>rock died in under 50
>>74190371
nice copypasta
Literally all of those genres have had their fads that came and went.
>rock is dead meme
>>74190371
If you think rock is dead, then you aren't looking hard enough
>>74190371
What fad has ever lasted 50 years?
>>74190371
For a lot of people it was just a fad, however, rock is not dead, and plenty of people view it as a part of their actual cultural identity.
>classical is one genre
Its because rock progressed the fastest and suddenly had no where else to go. You have to think about the fact that game changing rock albums were dropping left and right in the 60s and 70s
>>74190371
>pbr&b
Kill yourself unironically.
>80 years of electronic
what lol
>only 100 years of classical music
WHAT LOL

>(1910: Music started): The Post
>>74190596
electricity was invented in the 1700s by Ben Franklin. It's been way more than just 80 years.
Ayyy. It's slightly more complex than that. All genres evolve and change over time. Medieval classical is very different from romantic classical. Ragtime jazz is very different from post bop. And so on.
As for rock, it's largely an offshoot of blues, which is an offshoot of folk. Rock still exists in some form; it's still changing. Just like psychedelic and progressive rock was more popular at one point, the genres are continually shifting and changing.
>>74190553
None of them are necessarily one genre. That was OP's biggest mistake.
>>74190596
>>80 years of electronic
Electronic music started in the 1940s
>only 100 years of classical
It clearly says 1000
>>74190553
>>74190637
Then why is there only ever one /classical/ thread, one /jazz/ and one electronic thread if its all so varied?
>>74190627
Benjamin Franklin didn't "invent" electricity, he just did experiments involving lightning. The modern usage of alternating currents was pioneered by Nikola Tesla in the late 1800s.
>>74190689
Because fans of those genres are more intelligent and can discuss the entire spectrum and history.
>>74190718
>classical is one genre
>>74190718
>fans of those genres
Make up your mind.
jazz is dying too fag
>>74190371
Well, Rock and Roll achieved perfection in 1974. I mean, where does one go from there?
>>74190559
Rock is just guitars playing over a 4/4 beat, it doesn't "advance" technically at all. Pop music is mostly based on zeitgeist and context rather than technicality.
>>74190961
Tons of great emerging jazz/electronic fusion atm
>>74192256
>Rock is just guitars playing over 4/4
That's where you're wrong, kiddo
>>74190371
>folk and traditional are the same thing
>>74192301
That's not jazz. That's like saying rock is still alive because Kanye sampled King Crimson.
>>74192346
And then punk rock happened and prog was thrown into the trash where it belongs. The end.
>>74192397
Yes it is, it's jazz fusion like Krautrock with electronic instruments was still rock.
If rock is dead, then jazz has been dead for decades.
>>74192395
>he thinks folk-rock is actual folk
lmao
>>74190371
>no longer the mainstream's top genre
>IT'S DEAAAAAAD
Was all music prior to the CURRENT DECADE just a fad???
>>74192425
Mainstream interest being lost was the best thing to happen to prog, or any genre
>>74192425
Get fucked, Christgau.
>>74192491
You ain't gonna make any money or a decent living playing in a prog band nowadays.
>>74192567
Yes, and?
>>74192643
Enjoy working at Burger King for the rest of your life.
>>74190371
If rock is dead,so what was the last GREAT album from it?
>>74192928
Crawling in my skin, By Lincoln Park. chesher benningham was the last great rock star
>>74190658
>Electronic music started in the 1940s
i know what you're talking about but that's more on the side of classical or maybe experimental than electronic. What we understand as Electronic started around the 70's
>>74194887
Electronic music is music made with electronic instruments period.
>>74192301
jazz died in the 90's desu. nothing that has been done after the 80's has brought new elements or concepts to it.
that doesn't mean there hasn't been any good jazz since, there has been, it just isn't innovating
>>74194929
Rock music is music made with a guitar period.
>>74194929
how do you even define an electronic instrument?
is a band with an electric guitar an electronic band?
>>74194968
What about music made with a rock?
>>74192465
>he thinks all folk is a white fag with an acoustic guitar
>>74195004
That's some ethnic shit.
>>74194929
>Metal is all and any music with a distortion pedal
>>74194996
The instrument has a cable and plug.
The guitar doesn't, the amplifier does so no.
>>74195043

>>74195224
>>74195152
>>74195137
and don't come with "electronic music uses EXCLUSIVELY electronic instruments" cuz you know that just aint true
>>74195224
Goes to show "electronic" is a really stupid way to label music isn't it.
