well when you see how garbage 90% of rap is, Danny seems great. I like the album but half the songs are disposable - literally all "serious" songs are bad

What is even remotely minimalist about this album? The beats border on abrassive industrial at times. Hell, "Pneumonia" almost sounds like it was ripped from a Cut Hands LP.

Lyrically, sure, Brown isn't ever that captivating - but he is fun. He's very talented at weaving catchy rhymes and solid hooks. Is it anything to write home about when compared to music as a whole? No, certainly not. However, in the context of hip-hop (specifically modern hip-hop), it is an above average record with great production and fun lyrics. That Brown rarely takes himself seriously is somewhat of a gift, as most rappers try too bloody hard and, in their attempts at being serious, sound cartoonish.
