The fact you think Pantera are bad, is kind of the point of the thread anon.
Personally i think are a pretty good band

After Pantera, speed metal included talking about how angry you are, getting drunk and starting fights about whose jeans are out of fashion this season, and raging about your inability to retain women who are not covered in naturally-growing wool. It was a strike of Idiocracy against the intense music of Metallica, Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Testament, Anthrax and Megadeth that dumbed it down to the Belieber level, just with more angsty testosterone. Not only that but the complex songs got replaced by verse-chorus and lots of “emotional” vocals accompanied by softer guitar parts. The path to death for speed metal started with this watered-down, dumbed-down, ego-drama path to stupidity. Luckily after they had made their money, Pantera disappeared and the band members went on to more reputable projects.

That Pasta is a bunch of nonsense
>The metal bands you mentioned
>"Complex songs"

They're not bad, just not all that great.

>crazyaga likes Pantera
wtf I hate Pantera now
>>74171271
Nah i think they were pretty great.
They came up with great riffs, great guitar solos and a visceral vocal performance.
And they also dared to do all of that with a solid state amp, giving them a unique guitar tone

The Great Southern Trendkill is their best album. Despite every song on the entire record following the same exact formula.
>>74172521
>following the same exact formula
Absolutely not true
Far Beyond Driven is 10/10. It perfectly captured the male ego in all of its depraved, edgy glory. All their other albums are just dumb hillbilly shit.
>>74172461
/metal/ loves them
TGST is unironically one of the best metal albums in existance, but
>muh rednecks
>muh racists
>muh dumbing down metal

Far Beyond Driven is great but it was just a prelude to the utter savagery of The Great Southern Trendkill.
Anselmo was out of his mind on heroin by that point and Pantera were so dysfunctional that he recorded his vocals half a country away from where the rest of the band recorded the instrumental tracks, and the album perfectly captured that sense of isolation and something being seriously unhinged. The vocals, the lyrics, the music, everything on that album is totally downtrodden and slimy and miserable. Anselmo got fucking Seth Putnam to do guest vocals on a bunch of tracks.
Probably the most brutal record to ever make it top the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Spiritually it's got more in common with the likes of Pig Destroyer and Today Is The Day than it has with any of the other mainstream metal of the day.
