what are some good bluegrass and jam bands/albums that are /mu/tier? I've honestly never listened to much of either genre and would like some good referrals.

Bluegrass is kind of vague.

why is bluegrass vague? is not a genre? or am I being dumb?

No, it's just hard to specifically define it. Bluegrass and American Folk (A much broader genre) are pretty much the same to me.

With all of /mu/'s great wisdom it's a shame no one can correct me.
Now that I think about it Pokey LaForge is probably more Swing.

I dunno I think bluegrass and jam music might be treated like the plague here on /mu/
Also, this thread isn't talking about anthony memetano or lil peep so maybe they're distracted
Also nice song

I always felt like bluegrass was more energetic than american folk. American folk feels like slower and more emotional to me

Dammit I'm probably too late and the thread is dead
Anyways, I love bluegrass and often feel like I might be the only one here who does so it's always nice to see these threads
pic related are in my opinion some good albums in bluegrass (although I still need to expand more into the older classics like Flatt & Scruggs and Bill Monroe)

If you like the artist above she has a couple of solid early albums
Look in to Old And In The Way, and the Pizza Tapes for some good crossover between bluegrass and jam (Jerry Garcia is on both, and with a lot of great players)

You posted some great shit there. That Blake & Rice record is especially fantastic.

Highly recommend John Hartford. In fact I think Streetcar is in the /Mu/ core pic.

What does /mu/ think of Railroad Earth? I've never really listened much, but several people have told me to check them out.

Just posting because I figured they fit both the bluegrass AND jam labels.

There's some cool stuff happening in there but the drum and bass ruin it for me. Takes the groove too far into jam territory for my tastes.
Bela Fleck, Del McCoury
