Lets list some bands who's live albums are WAY better than their studio work. I'll start. These guys. Always though their studio stuff was good, but way too same-y, their live stuff is bangin tho
Yeah, to really get The Ramones you need to listen to It's Alive, which is a damn good live album. The albums themselves don't do it justice.
I sold my Joy Division studio albums after getting the bootlegs of them live in France because it's 10x better
aoa black, they know how to put on a performance

The Who were much better live than in the studio, especially when Keith Moon was still alive.
Live at Leeds is proof of that.

Save for Quadrophenia, where the tour was pretty crap. The rest was great, though. Live at Leeds has a better version of Tommy than the album itself.
Anyone see the Flaming Lips live? I love their work, but I've heard their shows are something else

Ever hear this album?
It's one of their last concerts with the classic line up. It's the Rocket To Russia tour.

I'll check that out anon
I never "got" pic related until I saw them live. They were absolutely phenomenal. I've never seen a band manage to get an audience going like I did when I saw these guys. Total chemistry between the band on stage and the crowd.
Obligatory Midori Post
misfits have good live shows. evilive sounds like it was recorded on a fisher price microphone though.
Their albums range from decent (Miss Machine) to magnificent (Dissociation, Calculating Infinity), but their live shows are almost transcendental because of how much energy there is.
In fact, I think OP's statement is true for almost every punk band. Even the shittiest punk bands can put on a decent show.

Saw them a couple months ago. Show was really good. Lots of energy and fun
