ever look through classicFM's facebook? it's 70% "aesthetic pictures of violins" (and 30% lowbrow buzzfeed-esque humor) meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator of fans. the emphasis is never placed on the craft of the music itself but the image. it's even worse once you get to their actual page and realize any "analysis" they do of whatever work is extremely barebones and boring.
tumblr is same way, but with the added caveat that it's pretty much a website for high schoolers so obviously they're going to be obsessed with aesthetic and angst

you understand what the "lowest common denominator" means right? the fact that basic shit is everywhere doesn't mean it's what everyone likes, it means it appeals in a general way to a broad number of people. even as people have niche interests, any particular niche thing won't appeal to everyone. It comes down to what you said at first, that people are listening to music for aesthetic and feels purposes, and minus the pretentious implication that it's shallow feelings and shallow art, that's literally what music's for

"what music is for" is ultimately dependent on personal values. yes many people listen to it for emotions and aesthetic, but many people also listen for the craft or perhaps a spiritual connection if you're into that. I'll concede there's no "right" way but I will argue that listening for aesthetics (and that includes personal aesthetics or how you see yourself in relation to the music's aural qualities) is the most superficial as it has the least active interaction with the music itself
