Fwiw, similar to the OP, it ALSO took me a while to really get into this album. Although it was BECAUSE of the commercial-friendly poppy sheen on it (I'm a classical/alternative music fan through and through who normally doesn't touch anything contemporary pop related with a ten foot poll.) And if not for her earlier records I most likely wouldn't have ever given it a listen either.
