If you practice meaningfully for about 2-3 hours a day, you'll be good enough within a year. Emphasis on the meaningful practice, though. Fucking around with the keys like a retard is not meaningful practice.

It took me about 2-2.5 years self-taught to start playing 'decent', then about 3.5-4 years to start playing good.
The guitar won't help much aside from knowing the notes. It's like switching from playing basketball to golf.
