I really only use others opinions on albums for a basic idea of what to expect and generally what kind of themes/ideas I should pay attention for (if not obvious).

I feel far too many people (at least on /mu/) let their taste be dictated by the opinions of the majority, and in the interest of fitting in, aren't fully honest with themselves about what they truly like.
