It's inoffensive and catchy enough to be popular, but also quirky and "underground" enough to give listeners the idea that liking his music gives them better taste than their peers. Hence why Chance is adored mainly by 16 year olds just getting into hip-hop and sorority basic bitches with tumblr accounts. It's basically music for normies who try too hard to prove they aren't normies while calling other similar people normies on the internet.

Of course I'm generalizing but it's mostly true.

he's actually a good lyricist in the climate created by the industry at the moment, with shit like migos and drake and carti etc. There's no need to be mad that he has pop sensibilities, i mean michael jackson is one of his biggest influences. Being quirky and underground is completely separate from the actual music and soley an image facade for /mu/ hipsters to validate one artist over another that sounds exactly the same.
