It's a fantastic record. La Dispute is more about poetry/spoken word, and sounds nothing like your dollar a dozen Post-Hardcore bands these days with the clean to scream dynamic and the glittering vocals.

Also, before going into it, you should know it's a concept album.

It's got two main storylines. There's an author, who's composing letters to friends and family, and at the same time, battling his own personal demons. He explores his own struggles through short stories that he writes, which take the form of several songs on the album.

This is my favorite song on the album. Jordan Dreyer is a FANTASTIC lyricist

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEbjhstG1gE

It's a fantastic record, and if you like it, I recommend you listen to Rooms of the House and then their Here, Hear works

Nice recents and thanks for the recs.
As far as Basinski goes, Arvo Part-esque banality being looped ad nauseam and cheaply tacked onto to the sentimentality of the 9/11 events which occurred after the recording of the album makes Disintegration Loops fucking unbearable. It's musically inoffensive and thematically offensive.

Well, it works for Arvo cuz he usually keeps his pieces relatively short compared to his peers, and it's the actual disintegration of the loops that makes it so good. The 9/11 crap was tacked on long after the music was made. I think it would've worked out better if he recorded the initial loops super slow then played them super fast so the loops would disintegrate that much faster and the thing wouldn't feel over long.

SFFB is the second Tyler album I've listened to and I'm enjoying it a lot, way more than I thought I would.
I loved DAMN. on first listen but every time I feel like listening to Kendrick now I just default to TPAB or GKMC, even Section.80 before DAMN.

See chart for some diverse music recommendations, try any that you haven't came across already and remember to give repeated listens (I'd recommend at least ten) as well as maintaining an open mind towards the more niche genres. Ultimately it would be best for you all to go through the /mu/essentials Chart that can be found the on the Wiki. That would give you a base from which you could enter numerous sub-genres and build on what you enjoy. Also I see a lot of you seem to rank Change over Emergency & I which I can't help but speculate is somewhat forced. You are allowed to like /mu/core bands on here, though If you cannot give obscure recommendations that the average /mu/tant may not come across then there is little purpose of posting in the first place, you are essentially paging people for recommendations and giving nothing in return.

Furthermore you do not have to force yourself to like any specific artist or album simply because they are considered "patrician" or in some cases foreign (see Fela Kuti), the purpose of /mu/ is to discuss things related to music and find things on your own accord, don't be afraid to experiment on your terms.

We have a lot musically in common. While there aren't loads of albums that overlap, the type of sound you enjoy is clearly similar to what I enjoy.

I have bad taste and need recs, especially for pre 2000 stuff.

Good guy. That GG Allin EP is probably my favorite thing that he's ever done, aside from maybe Suicide Sessions.
