what are the best audiophile headphones on the market right now for the price?
>>
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEF2AM/A/airpods
>>
those aren't sennheisers
>>
good price-to performance options:

VE Monks are only $5 and sound really good, but are slightly uncomfortable and cheaply made, but they're the best thing if you're broke

Koss KSC-75s look a little goofy but they have similar drivers to the portapros and they're only $15, strong but not overpowering bass.

Koss SportaPro/Portapro - Two versions of the same thing, again kinda goofy looking but the sound is very good, like KSC-75 but better. and it they fold up nicely so you can keep them in a hoodie pocket when you're not using them. $23/46

I'm poor so I don't really know anything above this pricerange.

I'm going to say it. AKG k240s sound just as good as any high end sennheiser you will get and are fantastic for the price. Get those and you won't regret it. Comparable to headphones 3 times the price once tuned in.
>>
Koss KSC75
>>
>>74058023
>once tuned in

what does that mean?
>>
>>74058057
headphones have to "break in" their sound

they should always sound better after a couple months of use
>>
>>74058092
>>74058057
That's what I meant. Excuse my stupid phrasing.
>>
>>74057222
Get the Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX. Brilliant fucking $500-sounding headphones for less than $200.
>>
>>74057957
PortaPros are muffled compared to KSC75, have a bad headband and get uncomfortable over time. KSC75 have no headband and therefore no clamp on your ears or pressure on the top of your head. They aren't earwax dredges like IEMs and are open. They would be the most comfortable design possible if they were wireless.

>>74058142
All of the Sennheiser 600 series have special kike earpads that disintegrate over time and cost around $70 to replace the earpads + top pads. $70 for a few pieces of foam. They clamp too much and have stiff construction for such an expensive headphone. Also a cumbersome cord. Sennheiser haven't bothered to update the design in any significant way since the 580s. As long as it keeps selling; they'll stay complacent.

I'm sure you could change the ear pads to something cheaper, but different material means a different sound.
>>
>>74058023
Are they solid to use?
Keep in mind I have never purchased headphones in my life and currently am using these https://www.amazon.com/Zalman-ZM-DS4F-Speaker-Foldable-Headphones/dp/B001BAGXR2.

$60 seems pretty reasonable if they can be used for ~8 hours a day every day for years without breaking.

I have those, bought them couple months ago and really like them so far. Upgraded from Seinhesier Momentum (1.0) and find these much better.

Ay dis the m50's all you want because they became a meme, but they've lasted my about 4 years now and the only thing really worn is the cheap pleather.
I will admit though, I like to try new things after a certain amount of time and if I had the money I'd probably buy something else.

/mu/ was very helpful for once

Beyerdynamic dt880 or dt770 (the treble honestly isn't that bad)

I haven't tried too many of the chinese pairs out, but I've gone through dozens of earbuds and these things are holding up pretty nicely

The audio isn't going to blow you away, but they're really comfortable and durable as hell.

>what are the best audiophile headphones on the market right now for the price?
Not sure what is categorized as "audiophile." According to /hpg/, it's HD600. Value is entirely subjective. But I'll go ahead and just list some "good" headphones, might forget a few

Closed: DT770s, M40x, XPT100, K240s, MDRs, MSR7s, M100s

If you're using them at home mostly and privacy is not an issue, just get open: SHP9500, DT880, HD558/598/600/650/6xx, Fidelio x2, Audio Tech AD series, AKGs, Portapros

HD600/650 with an amp is considered "end game" for many
>>
>>74059857
>K240s
*not closed*
>>
>>74059857
/hpg/ is full of retard brandfags. Some of them actually think beyerdynamics are good for example.
>>
>>74060144
what are the best headphones for your money then?
>>
>>74060144
>/hpg/ is full of retard brandfags
Possibly one of the worst generals. It's the same 20 anime posters circle jerking about the HD600, a few asking for recs, and 3 other anons saying "Snap." I stopped, but the headphones I listed are the ones I remember
>>
Probably the beyerdynamic t1 gen 2's

If you invest in something of lesser quality and are actually really into becoming an audiophile you'll eventually upgrade and have wasted your money.
>>
>>74057222
Phillips SHP9500 for open

Audio Technica M40x for closed

Both are near the best things you can get for around $100 unless you get a pair second hand
>>
The fuck does open, semi-open, and closed even mean?
I'm only here because I saw a headphone request and decided I wanted to upgrade from the swap-meet $3 pair of chinese knockoffs I bought four years ago.
>>
>>74057222
Don't buy into the ATH-M50 meme
the bass w8 m8 is terrible, and i've had better headphones that cost $20-$30
>>
what are goat speakers that also look le cool? asking for a cool guy
>>
>>74060560
>open
Leaks lots of sound
>closed
Does not leak as much sound as open, better isolation/privacy
>semi-open
Pretty much an irrelevant term. 'open' or 'closed' should be the basis of what headphone you want
>>
>>74060560
Literally mean's whether the backplate is a solid piece of material - Closed

Or some kind of grill which leaves the drivers exposed - Open

If you're just using them in a private room then get open, usually will end up will better sound for the price

If you need them for travel, work etc then get closed
>>
>>74060686
>>74060760
Thanks.
I decided to order some of these >>74058023 since they seem just at the edge of my price-range but it stated semi-open, and everybody here always specified whether it was open or not.
Hope they turn out okay. The biggest reason I picked them up was for longevity, but I hope they're better than the ones I have now.

>>

i wear the 2 at the same time and it's not uncomfortable at all, have you tried another of headphones?
>>
>>74059497
Nope cause not everyone can hear your music
>>
>>74059301
Open headphones aren't nearly as loud as speakers, if you're living in an apartment it's an option above closed headphones.
Closed headphones aren't for bringing outside anyway, most are not built to be portable.
>>
I have Sennheiser 598 and Sennheiser HD25-1 II. They're bot pretty great. The HD25's have lasted me for the longest.
>>
>>74057972
Just got these last week. Would recommend.
>>
>>74057222
sennheiser hd6xx (650 clone) are available for $200 right now on massdrop. only a couple thousand left. senn 650s and 600s have been around for decades and are still considered some of the best cans under 1000, so getting them for 200 is probably the best value you can get. just make sure you get a good amp to drive them.

ATH M50s are shit, please do not buy them. Even the M40s are better, but the best HP for that sub $150 price range is probably the Philips SHP9500.

>>
Any good noise canceling shit? I need it for a plane ride. Someone recommended Bose to me, but I want /mu/'s opinion.
>>
>>74062507
Bose isn't that great, Sony builds sound cancelling HPs with better sound quality. Bose quiet comfort is just a tiny step above Beats, the difference in public perception is mostly due to Beats and Bose's different marketing approachs.

To explain why i saw they M50s are shit, it's because they're not a "fun" listening experience.
They have pretty much zero soundstage (even my Dunu DN2000s have more soundstage... and those are fucking IEMs). The M50s are designed with the intent of making every flaw in a recording apparent for mixers in a mastering studio. I bought a pair of M50s 4 or 5 years ago and they still are in pretty good shape except for some leather on the headband ripping off, so I guess they're pretty durable at the very least, but as far as sound goes you should probably look elsewhere. They have a fairly balanced frequency response but not neutral because the bass and upper mids/lower treble are both exaggerated a bit. Sub bass has artificial exstension, clarity and detail is very average for the price. Overall I'd say the sound feels very cold and analytical, it's a great budget headphone but only for a very specific purpose.
