I recently started listening to emo. I think it's one of those genres that click you at a certain time of your life.

I agree to a point. I loved emo in my very early 20s, and I still do love it in my late 20s. But I listen to it less now and I don't really identify with it anymore. Back then I was a skinny, pale, socially inept, anxious kid dealing with a lot of self-doubt and uncertainty. That's still probably a fair description, but now I go outside more, I take more personal responsibility, I've worked on people skills, and I'm more ambitious, so while I still love my favorite bands from back then, it doesn't really speak to what I identify as anymore.

A more extreme example of this might be, when I was 11 I loved blink-182. Now I can still hear that blink-182 has well written songs, but since I have no interest in dick jokes and whining about teen girls or my parents, blink-182 holds little appeal.
