Hello /mu/, I am currently learning about musical notation, and I have been looking for some more in depth books. And i think that learning the history of the development of the staff and how clefs became to be used is a great way to understand them. So I would be very grateful if someone could recommend me one or more books about the history of musical notation or region specific modes and scales or the history of the musical eras (ex. baroque)
There's Iike 4 people here who can read anything except ableton and guitar tabs. Sorry dude.
ah its ok, i will search some other sites then

> He is regarded as the inventor of modern musical notation (staff notation) that replaced neumatic notation; his text, the Micrologus, was the second-most-widely distributed treatise on music in the Middle Ages (after the writings of Boethius).

you wont gain anything of value as opposed to just learning the variants, it takes less than 30 seconds
