You!
Post your favourite album of the 70s!
1971 - 1980 or 1970 - 1979?
GOAT
It's less about the music itself and more about how the album has always sort of been this thing that I could use to calm myself down during a panic attack.
>>74016453
If you're the kind of person who has to ask this question, I really don't want to know what your answer is.

the 70s was a really bad decade for rock, even worse for electronic.
it was saved by the 1977-1979 period tho, the disco and post punk scene.
pic related my pick.

"Narada Michael Walden from Mahavishnu MK II, drums on track 7. Phil Collins, percussion on track 4, Jeff Porcaro drums on tracks 1, 2, 3 and 5. Prairie Prince from the Tubes and Todd Rundgren, drums on tracks 4 and 8. Jan Hammer from Mahavishnu MK I and Jeff Beck and Miami Vice (in the future), keyboards on tracks 6 & 7, also drums on track 6 ! David Sanborn, saxophone on tracks 6 & 7. Only having played so well with a musician of Billy Cobham's stature in the 1973 and then Alphonse Mouzon in 1974, could have possibly led this many great virtuoso musicians to want to play on Bolin's first solo album. They certainly weren't doing it strictly for the money, that's for sure."

>>74024844
I do too. It's an underrated album
>>74024844
to my ears, it's one of the most dated albums of the entire 1970s and it came out at the tail end of the decade.

Sure
1970: Black Sabbath - Paranoid
1971: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV]

1973: Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star
1974: Albert MarcÅur - Albert MarcÅur
1975: Henry Cow - In Praise of Learning
1976: Albert MarcÅur - Album Ć Colorier
1977: Chrome - Alien Soundtracks
1978: Willie ColĆ³n & RubĆ©n Blades - Siembra

I'm listening to Henry Cow right now. I just don't understand how this isnt just considered "joke music."
>>74027223
>And you think have room to judge my tastes?
Absolutely. Your taste is entry level as fuck. It's like your taste remained the same as when you first started browsing /mu/
Also, it's especially funny that you mentioned them because they are the bands you would like the most (I bet you haven't listened to that specific Rundgren album anyways lol).
>So you're one of THOSE people.
What's wrong?
>>74027245
>Sabbath and XTC are great choices though btw...

>I'm listening to Henry Cow right now. I just don't understand how this isnt just considered "joke music."
Holy shit, how can you even be so much of a pleb?
>>74027486
>Entry level
Everything is entry level for something else, isn't it? Can you provide for me an "ulimate destination" album? I also sincerely doubt you've listened to more than half of my list.
Btw, I listened to a bunch of Todd Rundgren albums back in the day of anticipation for his work with The NEW Cars. He was pretty terrible. Not talent wise, he's a great singer and guitarist. He just totally lacks good songwriting skills (kind of like John Cougar and Bruce Springsteen).
>>74027630
>Everything is entry level for something else, isn't it?
No. The point is when all your favorites are entry level albums (another word for the most popular albums).
And lmao at your opinion regarding Rundgren. He was one of the best pop artists ever, with great skills regarding audio. Listen to A Wizard, A True Star. All the instruments and mastering was done by him, and even more, he managed to fit more minutes into a vinyl than it was supposed possible, thanks to his technical skills in audio
>He just totally lacks good songwriting skills (like Bruce Springsteen)
fucking LOL
>>74027712
Please point out which of my picks are the most popular with the respective artist. I'm having a hard time

>Queen - (s/t debut) Certainly not ANY of their other 70s albums.

How fucking deluded and ignorant are you?
>Sparks are best known for the songs "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us", which reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1974; the disco hit "The Number One Song in Heaven" in 1979; "When I'm With You" which topped the French Singles Chart in 1980; the single "I Predict", which provided Sparks' first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 60 in May 1982; the 1983 single "Cool Places" with the Go-Go's rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Jane Wiedlin, and "When Do I Get to Sing 'My Way'" which topped the German and European charts in 1994/95 and was the top airplay record in Germany for 1994.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Actually, yes. You are just too ignorant to know better.

When you used Sparks as an example of an artists that wasn't popular but actually is, meaning everything else is popular too.

If you can't read, maybe.
Hard to just pick one favourite. There are many great 70's albums.

Various Artists - No New York

>When you used Sparks as an example of an artists that wasn't popular but actually is, meaning everything else is popular too.
Even if Sparks was the most popular musical artist of all time, how does that make them bad?
>If you can't read, maybe.
Ouch. How do you craft such imperious arguments that no one ever challenges you and your infinite wisdom?
>>74028963
>Explain.
Spark are not unpopular, they are still popular even to this day.
>Even if Sparks was the most popular musical artist of all time, how does that make them bad?
It doesn't. But when your entire taste consists of entry level artists, then your taste sucks.
>How do you craft such imperious arguments that no one ever challenges you and your infinite wisdom?
I won't bother replying to your shitposting.

Yes, many things (including high school biology text books from the 50s, diesel locomotives produced by ALCO and EMD in the 60s, and the 80s television show "Square Pegs") are popular in limited circles. That does not make them generally popular in any way, shape, or form in 2017. You really do need to leave the house and interact with people in the real world once in a while.
>But when your entire taste consists of entry level artists, then your taste sucks.
Again without explaining what is bad about a single artist that I listed.

>>74029266
Alright then, just take a look at the number of listeners Sparks have compared to Gentle Giant at lastfm.

Gee, I don't know!
>>74029292

>>74029316
>Because lastfm is a good indicator of popularity.
Actually a total fallacy.
>Do I have to repeat it fives times more again?

That's not even sort of true. You're basing your assumptions on a very small sample size. So what if those are my favorites. Explain how a single one of them is not good.
>>74029449
>That's not even sort of true
It definitely is.
>You're basing your assumptions on a very small sample size.
The sample size is big enough. If you listened to stuff that wasn't so highly popular at least one of the albums you mentioned would have been so. But none of them were, so...
>So what if those are my favorites.
It only means your taste is bad.
>Explain how a single one of them is not good.
I don't have to. Your taste is bad regardless if those albums are good or not.

You haven't explained what entry level even means yet. What it is, why it's bad? How your taste is superior? What the process is to not be entry level? Is there a level before entry level, because like I've explained up until npw, there certainly are more popular 70s artists out there, like say Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath.
>>74029665
>You haven't explained what entry level even means yet.
I have, like 5 times already. It means popular stuff.
>why it's bad?
It's bad because it means you don't listen to stuff that's not popular.
>How your taste is superior?
Irrelevant. I'm only saying your taste is entry-level. My taste has nothing to do with that.
>What the process is to not be entry level?
To listen to stuff that's not popular.
>Is there a level before entry level, because like I've explained up until npw, there certainly are more popular 70s artists out there, like say Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath.
