There's literally no difference between IDM and Instrumental Hip-Hop..
Seriously think about it. The only difference I can possibly think of is the race as in white people make IDM and blacks make instrumental hip hop. Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and Donuts are basically the same album the only difference between them is one was made by a white man and the other was made by a black man.

White people already appropriated instrumental hip hop and made it better.

>Intelligent dance music (commonly IDM) is a genre of electronic music that emerged in the early 1990s and was characterized by an experimental or "cerebral" sound better suited for home listening than dancing.[1][2][3] It was originally influenced by a variety of sources, including Detroit techno, acid house, and UK breakbeat as well as ambient music and other forms of electronic music.[4][5] Stylistically, IDM tended to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than adhering to characteristics associated with specific genres.[6] Prominent artists associated with the genre include Aphex Twin, the Black Dog, the Orb, Autechre, Luke Vibert, Squarepusher, and Boards of Canada.[1][2]
IDM is beard twiddling music you listen to, not dance to.
