Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Vs.
Tim Buckley - Happy Sad
Both of these albums are favourites of mine but I have to say Astral Weeks is quite a push ahead as an album ahead of Happy Sad. Both are folky jazzy albums and are pretty similar actually but there's a whole 10 minute song on Happy Sad that is a miss for me (Gypsy Lady). I feel like whilst both have a good aspect of melancholy, Astral Weeks is more consistent in mood, more spiritual and the jazz elements are executed much better. Morrison's voice is more soulful; he uses his voice in the same way that Coltrane used his saxophone, as if it were some other instrument.
Tim Buckley is a great artist, but his album is a little more "comfy" (the best word I have to describe the difference, comfy vs. transcendent).
Feel free to call me a pleb =)

Spot on I think. Astral Weeks is nothing compared to Lorca, however, especially in terms of consistent atmosphere. That album chills me to my soul.
I could never get into Happy Sad. Lorca is Buckley's only album I listen to.
My rank would be Lorca > Astral Weeks > Happy Sad.
That said, Astral Weeks is great, even if it isn't super interesting.
