If jazz is such a "free" genre then why do I have to pay money for jazz records? Bunch of assholes

lots of people will flak on you but I can say, having listened to a lot of music in my life, that yes what you said is somehow truthful. that doesn't mean that there isn't good original jazz though.

That's likely due to the fact Jazz isn't based around sounding different via production tricks like basically every genre based on Jazz or Blues.

Same reason why country probably sounds very similar song to song but big hit folk songs don't.

for a genre where freedom of expression is such a big thing, jazz sure has a lot of conservative and narrow-minded musicians - just branch out to creative music that purists say is "not real jazz" and you'll find all sorts of things
