I mean, I'm no expert on 80's revival sounds, but to be honest I find a lot of 80's revival to be... not so good. It's got to be done just so. It can't sound so 80's that it's unoriginal or automatically dated, it's got to be at least somewhat fresh, and in that capacity a lot of it stumbles so I don't keep it. As for 2012, I dunno.. that S U R F I N G is more chillwave than anything, same with Glowbug. Com Truise came out with a thingy but I wasn't a fan, it was apparently B-sides or outtakes or some shit. There was a thing from an artist called Miami Nights 1984 that was like HOLY SHIT 80'S WHAM but I felt that it fell into the trap I mentioned earlier and didn't update the sound at all. It fulfills one role.
I'm probably not really helping with this commentary, I just haven't hear that much great 80's type stuff this year.

Look, i'm not Boards of Canada fan. I don't really even care that much about Geogaddi. But at least I’m wise enough to see that this. This is a masterpiece.

When the intro kicks in, those strings and synths really bring me into a new world. I knew from the START that the Boards of Canada had depression when they first wrote this song. They do a great job putting it in their music.

That's right, i said it. EMOTION in ELECTRONIC MUSIC. I didn't think it was possible either.

Then, the percussion kicks in. It just brings me into mania. I know this isn't your regular techno band. This is something on a completely new level.

So, in conclusion, what can I say? Easily the best album since Loveless. Probably the first album i'll give a 5 on my RYM account. Thank you, Boards of Canada, for giving me hope in music.

It's weird looking through this thread. I haven't come here much since 2015 (late 09-14 I was here all the time), and seeing all these old pics is really bringing me back. It's weird realizing how much spending time here during my late teens and early 20s impacted my taste in music and my sense of humor. This board always had a good pace to it.

Not that old but I remember the thread this was posted in being one of the funniest times I ever had here. There was a version with a birthday hat on Billy ray's head too because apparently it was his birthday when this happened. Good times.

Exactly a year ago, October 3rd, 2015, Jacob's friend, a girl in her teens, is babysitting for a family in Newport Beach, Ca. The family is wealthy and has a very large house — you know the sort, with a ridiculous amount of rooms. Anyways, the parents are going out for a late dinner/movie. The father tells the babysitter that once the children are in bed she should go into this specific room (he doesn't really want her wandering around the house) and watch TV there.

The parents take off and soon she gets the kids into bed and goes to the room to watch TV. She tries watching TV, but she is disturbed by a Hampus statue in the corner of the room. She tries to ignore it for as long as possible, but it starts freaking her out so much that she can't handle it.

She resorts to calling the father and asks, "Hey, the kids are in bed, but is it okay if I switch rooms? This Hampus statue is really creeping me out."

The father says seriously, "Get the kids, go next door and call 911."

She asks, "What's going on?"

He responds, "Just go next door and once you call the police, call me back."

She gets the kids, goes next door, and calls the police. When the police are on the way, she calls the father back and asks, "So, really, what's going on?"

He responds, "We don't HAVE a Hampus statue." He then further explains that the children have been complaining about Hampus watching them as they sleep. He and his wife had just blown it off, assuming that they were having nightmares.
