Considering Replica is one of the most overrated electronic albums in recent years, I can't blame him.

That being said, Fantano doesn't have the taste for IDM, ambient techno, etc. Basically he has a strong affinity for gimmicky acts like SOPHIE but doesn't appreciate the timbral chaos of 90's- and 00's-era progressive electronic.

Fantano isn't a real music critic. He just opens a bunch of tabs with places like /mu/ and hip hop heads and posts an aggregation of their opinions.

He's never had an original opinion about anything.

Replica is probably a bit overrated (but still good) but R+7 is fantastic. and SOPHIE is good too. he's not gimmicky at all. if anything, the rest of PC Music is 10x more gimmicky.

but that's dumb and the exact opposite of the point of the album. the sounds aren't really that aesthetically pleasing in isolation: they're generic new age synth presets and female vocals of vowel noises. i mean fuck, the first track is literally named "Boring Angel" and begins with what seems to be a cliche drone

the interesting part is in the arrangement and unusual song structure, time signatures, chord intervals, effects, mixing, etc. the arrangement is the part that's easy on the ear.

well "good" is subjective. on one hand, the sounds could be called aesthetically pleasing because they're all very airy and give a sense of joy, nature, etc. and on one hand maybe the arrangement could be called aesthetically displeasing because it uses uncommon rhythmic patterns and intervals and can come across as alien until you listen to it a few times

whatever you want to call them, i just think it's a unique and very enjoyable album. and i think any claims that the album is somehow not musical must only come from people who haven't listened to that much music. they're just being thrown off by odd time signatures and non-ABA structure

a lot of people on /mu/ consider him one of the greatest electronic artists of the 2010s so you should at least give him a fair shot. and the name is just a joke about the fact that he unintentionally ended up naming his previous albums kinda similarly (Rifts, Returnal, Replica)

unless you mean the name "OPN", in which case it's just some kind of inside joke he had with friends about the radio station Magic 106.7. his original moniker was Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, which kind of rolls off the tongue better but i guess he realized it's too long and unwieldy
