Black people let the narrative of their history of systematic oppression control their entire lives.
Basically any minority group will let that shit smear all over their work, see women, mentally ill, poor, LGBT, etc.
I mean, I see the point in writing to appeal to your own demographic, but actual strength comes from becoming universal through allegories everyone can understand regardless of background.

Artists make songs about thing important to them and affect their life in major ways. In America, being black defines a large part of how your treated by others, so it affects them greatly
