if you can think of great art in your head but you can't bring it from your head into the real world that means that you have good imagination and good ideas but you need to get good at your medium (i.e. fruity loops, drawing, etc.) bringing ideas to fruition is the hardest challenge that the artist faces. if you want to be able to do it you have to git gud.

Idont think I've ever thought of a song before trying to make it. I usually start with the chords and just build ideas from there

the only way is to be well versed in a DAW which would then allows you to maximize your workflow uninterrupted.
