Thoughts on synthwave? I've found it to be an interesting genre just because of how differently it can sound despite it being based of a very specific kind of music from the 80s. Its kind of a shame that its so niche though because there aren't a lot of good artists contributing to the genre.

Why though
At first I thought it was supposed to be synthpop like John Maus
But apparently synthwave is normie EDM in a lazy digital fake VHS aesthetic

Com Truise is probably my favorite one with a couple of tracks from Hotline Miami. Past that, there really isn't much in the genre worth listening to. This is a really good one though:

synthwave is mostly music by synthesizer nerds for synthesizer nerds.
while a lot of attention is payed to timbre, little attention is payed to arrangement or structure. pile this on with a heavy dose of nostalgia, and you get a fairly boring output. it's a shame, considering how many choices a synthesizer offers its user compared to a more traditional instrument.
if a few artists were to break free and do something more interesting than 8th note basslines, fairlight samples, and acid rock solos, things could get really exciting.
