Define "indie"
music that came out on an indie label
Pretentious
Guitars with a lot of reverb. Scratch that. Everything has a lot of reverb. Uninspired compositions and lyrics. At least one member wearing a beanie and horn-rimmed glasses. Overall hipster aesthetic and appeal.

A band that released music via an independent label. And then was signed to a major label when they got famous. But you know, they still have their integrity and are better than everything else.
shitty soft rock/pop with aweful production and a faggot vocalist
The term "indie" in reference to music lost all meaning at some point in the last 10-15 years. Now it mostly is just used to refer to any sort of hipster-friendly pop/rock/folk music that doesn't get any airplay and tries to be somewhat "experimental". Think Fleet Foxes or
The Decemberists or other garbage like that.

It used to have a legitimate meaning but this was quickly subverted, indie means unsigned, anything else, especially corporate, or major label bands being called indie were done so purely for fashion and to bury the independent side of music. This is what happened during the 2000s and the 2010s.
