The debate ends this week.

Is Grimes Ugly and Bad or Cute and Good?

If /mu/ calls Grimes cute, I will forver keep my trip on because I have been considering taking it off forever.

Vote smart.

Every generation needs to "rebel" against their parents somehow. But what do you do when your parents rebelled against THEIR parents so hard that they still pride themselves on noncomformity and anti-commercialism? Naturally, the pendulum swings back, and the answer is in acting willfully inauthentic, cliqueish, superficial, materialistic and generally yuppie-esque. It sounds like something out of some mediocre dystopian satire, but there you go: the terrible roots of the "hipster"/twee/tumblr ethos.

So, adding to the flavor-of-the-week garbage heap of Crystal Castles and Lil B, we have Grimes, who repackages what Boards of Canada already did better a decade ago ("hazy" nostalgic recontextualization of muzak) with added "detached" blank facial expressions, memes and ironic metal poses. Basically brain poison. When I'm old I hope generation Z realizes this stuff (not grimes in particular, who will be completely forgotten in 5 years) is soulless pap and discovers guitars again.

They effectively can't, because there are no special permissions needed in order for someone to post here (thus making it anonymous.) And let me tell you - the idea that the existence of one unassuming Canadian woman is enough to dismantle 4chan's anonymous culture (what would happen if site registration is required) speaks to how insecure people like you really are.

>the same shit happened with my little pony
MLP has an ENTIRE BOARD dedicated to it. If that's the direction you think /grimes/ should go, email the mods about it - stop shitting up threads on /mu with your complaints. It's against site-wide rules.

>>
>>73929124
Do you think that the pro-Grimes votes are VPN or not? You said that you think that the claim that the votes are faked is a "campaign of spreading lies and bullshit", correct? However, one post earlier, you said that the other poll had an OP that "vote[d] multiple times through VPN". However, in that poll, the only person claiming that a VPN was in use was one person (without OP's trip) posting a screenshot. Now, why are you willing to suspend your skepticism when it comes to results of Grimes not being popular, but you (reasonably) think it isn't true when the faked votes are pro-Grimes. Do you obsess this much over Grimes?
>>
>>73929191
Since we are discussing the fans of an artist (artist discussion is allowed), we are still discussing music and topics related to music, as thin as that distinction is.

Give me a reason to believe that
1. Anyone is willing to do that to a poll about an artist they dislike
2. Grimes is really well-loved even though only 25 voters were pro-Grimes
3. That the poll was fudged in the first place

Fanbase of an ENTIRE genre? I agree. The thing is, Grimes isn't an entire genre - at least not yet. In anything her music is a proto-genre...
>Why does that mean that the people who love her would stop loving her?
It doesn't. It means that people who love her MUSIC aren't as likely to post new things about it since they've already done that.

>I have a hard time people would work that much just to convince people that Grimes isn't well liked
It takes virtually no effort (less than forming a coherent sentence in one of these posts) to troll an internet poll like that. And the guaranteed reward is (You)s. So...
>>
>>73930724
Then why is the fact that she hasn't released music contributing to a lack of a turnout? Why'd they drop her like that?

>>73930694
>it's not a mere dislike, it's hatred
I think you're believing the trolls more then you should
>those who vote are always less numerous then the total fanbase
Proof?
>even the op posted about his dirty tricks
First off, that anon could not prove he was OP, and second off the fake OP continued to make claims after the real one adopted a trip. It was clear damage control

>because of frustration
That doesn't make any sense
>desperation
See above
>stupidity
So you think it's stupid for someone to dislike an artist you like? That's pretty pathetic
>envy
If you really think that Grimes' level of success is enough for envy, then why do the same people also overwhelmingly like Björk? She's far more successful.

>>73930787
>genre
What are you talking about
>it means they're less likely to post new things about it
In the same way as you say, it takes less effort than to post to vote in that poll
>and the guaranteed result is (You)s
That's not guaranteed at all. How would fudging the results get (You)s? You don't have to post to do it. In fact, the most (You)s in the poll thread were given to the people crying about how they thought it was faked
>>
>>73930888
>Then why is the fact that she hasn't released music contributing to a lack of a turnout? Why'd they drop her like that?
they just took a break from posting. it doesn't mean they don't listen to her music anymore. you'll see a big spike of activity once she releases a new album. she will gain new fans too.
>>
>>73930888
>Then why is the fact that she hasn't released music contributing to a lack of a turnout?
Probably because they have lives outside of 4chan.

>>73931017

>>
>>73931048
Not conclusively, but most people complaining about grimesposters complain that their Björk threads are invaded, many are angered by the comparison of Grimes to Björk, and many also say stuff like "Björk is far superior". Even if Björk isn't a good example, then why would they like any successful artist?

>>73931071

>you haters

>>
>>73930888
>It was clear damage control
On both sides, since everyone here is anonymous. Nothing here can be proved.

>then why do the same people also overwhelmingly like Björk?
Probably because they're waifufags, and Bjork is a very good target for that sort of thing. Grimes, less so.

>What are you talking about
All the other generals regularly posted on /mu are devoted to entire genres of music. Grimes generals are (afaik) the only exception to that. The only threads on here that routinely get 30+ posters other than generals are artist/instrument/whatever threads that tie into some sort of current eventlike a new album/artist death/concert/festival/award show happening etc - AND threads about Grimes.

Is this Good? Bad? Beats me. That's just the way things are desu.
>>
>>73931017
>Fine, I guess we'll both find out
Different anon. Yeah, imo it's gonna be very interesting to see what happens when her next one comes out. Especially if it's more experimental in the same vein as her earlier albums - which currently seems to be the direction she's going in.
>>
>>73931157
>on both sides
No. There was clearly someone pretending to be OP, either for (You)s or so he could defend his waifu

>probably because they're waifufags
All of them decry waifufaggotry, and Björk is not as attractive nowadays. Besides, you're missing the point of my post. If they're envious of Grimes, why would they not be envious of every popular artist, all of which are more successful then Grimes?

>all the other generals regularly posted on /mu are devoted to entire genres
Ok....
>Grimes generals are the only exception
Ok
>The only threads on here that routinely get 30+ posters
Every single other thread with more than 100 posts have more than 40 posters
>>
>>73931260
>All of them decry waifufaggotry, and Björk is not as attractive nowadays.
that's why they post older pictures. they're still waifufags. bjorkthreads have way more pictures than grimethreads.
>>
>>73931209
i bet her next album will be less poppy than art angels. i enjoyed all her music so far, so i think i'll enjoy her next one too.
>>
>>73931260
>If they're envious of Grimes, why would they not be envious of every popular artist, all of which are more successful then Grimes?
not that anon. they're envious because she pissed them off indirectly. she seems like a fragile girl who is sjw (not true btw), libertarian, has a weird look and personality and managed to succeed in this wild music industry. they wanted her to fail, but she never gave up. they also hate her because she does all her work by herself without needing males and because she does whatever she wants to. it's more like a political issue. they can't stand independent and successful women. it puts them in a very bad light.
>>
>>73927257
bump
>>
>>73931260
>There was clearly someone pretending to be OP
And since there is no way to know who that was (since this is an anonymous board) it's all just damage control/trolling for (You)s.

>All of them decry waifufaggotry
Have you looked at what happens in Bjork threads?

>Björk is not as attractive nowadays
Hence why - apart from I'd say the 5-7 genuine Bjork fans who routinely post on /mu - the vast majority of posts in those threads aren't about what she's like right now. Bjork is an old artist irl.

>If they're envious of Grimes, why would they not be envious of every popular artist
They would be (and are.) Which is why if/whenever such artists start getting discussed here at any length, they start coming out of the woodwork to troll (e.g. for the most recent example see the reaction against Lorde-posting post Melodrama.)

>Every single other thread with more than 100 posts have more than 40 posters
The only threads on here that routinely get 30+ posters OTHER THAN GENERALS (which include threads like >>73914277 since it is about a general topic) are artist/instrument/whatever threads that tie into some sort of current event like a new album/artist death/concert/festival/award show happening etc - AND threads about Grimes. Case in point - this thread (102 posts, 28 posters) if just two more people show up.
>>

I'm honestly not sure what she'd have to release in order for me to truly not like it (I've liked everything she's done so far, even left-field one-off stuff like Medieval Warfare.) But based on what she's been saying recently, I really don't think I need to worry about finding out.

her production will remain solid or will even improve. that's a given. assuming she will not lose her mojo, her songwriting will remain solid too. her vocals still have room to improve even if they're already very diverse and rich.
her next album will come in 2018, that's the most plausible release year. will be another masterpiece? we'll see.

It's like this:
She has skill and talent, but writes bad music...or I suppose has really poor taste and just writes what she thinks is good but is really mediocre.

And she's more or less cute, but has some features vwhich don't always photo well.

Ps Bjork gets my dick so hard.

Disagree. Her music is tremendously good. It's catchy as fuck, emotional, has staying power and it sounds exciting. What's not to like about her music?

>I suppose has really poor taste and just writes what she thinks is good but is really mediocre.
Really mediocre to you. Of course she writes what she thinks is good: she's the artist, she's in charge of her art. She doesn't exist to pander to your dubious taste. She offers her art and it's your choice if you like it or not.

>And since there is no way who that was
Do you really think it was OP? I'm 100% certain it wasn't

>Have you seen what happens in bjork threads?
The most recent one involved no posting pictures of her, and I haven't seen many since I started posting here half a year ago

>the 5-7 genuine Björk fans
I can assure you with no hesitation that more people like Björk here then Grimes

>They would be (and are.)
Prove it. There are contrarians for every artist but I doubt that all of them are the same as the people that don't like Grimes

>artist/instrument/whatever threads
That makes up almost every thread we've ever had on this board

>>73932405
>your dubious taste
What's dubious about his taste?

Virtually no one agrees with you desu - including me. In any case, what music are you comparing it to? What does 'good' music sound like to you, because clearly we've got radically different definitions of 'good' going on here.

My fellow graduates with teaching jobs would say otherwise desu. Especially the music ed. ones. M-------- -----e University has an excellent game on that front right now.

then why there's so little bjorkposting?

On an anonymous internet messaging board? Top kek.

>The most recent one
You mean this one? https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/73377401/ Which, on top of being only 21 posts long, features UNDELETED posts like this https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/73377401/#73378113 and this https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/73377401/#73378166 ?

>I can assure you with no hesitation
On an anonymous internet messaging board? Top kek. Which isn't to say that I think there aren't ANY. Just not more than enough to keep a thead alive beyond 21 posts on an OFF day.

>There are contrarians for every artist but I doubt that all of them are the same
Trolls aren't selective about subject matter. See https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/73337506

>That makes up almost every thread we've ever had on this board
are artist/instrument/whatever threads THAT TIE INTO some sort of current event like a new album/artist death/concert/festival/award show happening etc - AND threads about Grimes.
What is it with you and not reading up to the ends of sentences?

>What's dubious about his taste?
What does it consist of? Which other artists' music is Grimes music inferior to, in this anon's opinion?
>>
>>73927212
Grimes is good. I hope that helps.
